Description

Overview Provides specialized painting and related maintenance services to the Agency’s buildings, grounds, and equipment. The ideal candidate will have expertise in surface preparation, painting techniques, and finishing, and be capable of working with limited supervision while taking initiative to solve problems and make decisions related to painting projects. This position embraces diversity in all its forms and strives to create an inclusive, welcoming environment where every individual feels valued. They demonstrate cultural awareness and actively support a culture of equity and inclusion. Responsibilities Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Perform specialized painting tasks including surface preparation (sanding, scraping, patching), applying primers, paints, stains, and protective coatings to interior and exterior surfaces of Agency buildings and equipment. Ensure high-quality, durable finishes in accordance with safety and aesthetic standards. Inspect surfaces to identify areas requiring repair or repainting, troubleshoot issues such as peeling, cracking, or moisture damage, and determine the appropriate course of action. Maintain tools, equipment, and materials necessary for painting jobs; order supplies and materials as needed to ensure timely project completion. Support the upkeep and favorable appearance of Agency facilities by assisting with minor maintenance tasks related to painting projects, including cleaning work areas and ensuring safe and efficient site conditions. Plan and schedule painting projects, anticipate potential challenges, and coordinate with other maintenance staff or contractors to minimize disruptions. Perform routine preventive maintenance related to painted surfaces, such as touch-ups and seasonal upkeep, including outdoor weather-related maintenance. Follow all work-related safety procedures, ensuring compliance with agency policies. Report any unsafe conditions or hazards promptly to supervisors or the safety committee. Perform other related duties as assigned, which may include moving furniture or equipment to facilitate painting tasks or taking agency vehicles for inspection. Please note: This position involves regular, substantial, and unsupervised physical activity, including lifting, climbing ladders/scaffolding, and working at heights. The role requires successful completion of a fingerprint/criminal background check due to regular contact with individuals receiving agency services. Prior general maintenance experience required, including minor trade work reparis. Valid and Qualified NYS driver’s license required.
