    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The Chief Sonographer leads and manages a team of  diagnostic ultrasound sonographers who provide care for pediatric and perinatal patients.  The Chief sonographer works with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care. </p>\n<p>Reports To: Practice Administrator</p>\n<p> Supervises: Sonographers</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Prepares patients for ultrasound examination.</li>\n <li>Prepares patients for physicians.</li>\n <li>Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provides patient education related to medical ultrasound.</li>\n <li>Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.</li>\n <li>Ensures the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained.</li>\n <li>Conducts ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.</li>\n <li>Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.</li>\n <li>Maintains patient confidentiality.</li>\n <li>Maintains patient charts and records, and records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.</li>\n <li>Follows universal precautions and OSHA standards.</li>\n <li>Code appropriate CPT and ICD9 for services performed.</li>\n <li>Submit completed billing work sheets daily.</li>\n <li>Notify Patient Service Associate of additional services performed which require authorization.</li>\n <li>Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action. Coordinates the required maintenance as necessary.</li>\n <li>Keeps work area clean.</li>\n <li>Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.</li>\n <li>Maintain archives/records scans.</li>\n <li>Oversees and coordinates the ultrasound schedule.</li>\n <li>Ensures compliance with AIUM ultrasound guidelines.</li>\n <li>Responsible for orienting new sonographers to practice.</li>\n <li>Participate in interview process of new employees.</li>\n <li>Participates in the annual reviews for sonographers at site.</li>\n <li>Maintains effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.</li>\n <li>Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual’s religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs.</li>\n <li>Recognizes ethical, legal and professional issues inherent in providing care to pregnant women.</li>\n <li>Participates in staff development, in-service workshops and educational activities.</li>\n <li>Performs other assigned duties as directed.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<em>Education:</em>\n<ul>\n <li>Satisfactory completion of one of the following; at least two (2) years in Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year on-the-job training in ultrasonography, or completion of an approved ultrasonography educational program.</li>\n <li>Must possess a current/valid certification in diagnostic ultrasound.</li>\n <li>Maintain or be eligible for certification the American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer<em>  </em></li>\n <li>Completion of a course in ultrasonic technology.<em>      </em></li>\n <li>CPR Certification required.</li>\n</ul>\n<em>Experience:</em>\n<ul>\n <li>At least 2 years supervisory experience.<em> </em></li>\n <li>Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.    </li>\n</ul>\n<em>Experience Industry:</em> Healthcare \n<em>Skills/Abilities:                                                  </em>\n<ul>\n <li>Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.</li>\n <li>Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.</li>\n <li>Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.</li>\n <li>Ability to effectively communicate.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.<em> </em></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Benefits and Compensation</h2>\n<p><em><strong>Take great care of the patient, every day and every way.TM </strong></em>At Pediatrix & Obstetrix, that’s not only our motto at work each day; it’s also how we view our employees and their families.
