Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Housing and Residence Life, the Associate Director of Residence Life and Orientation plays a key role in advancing student engagement and the residential experience at Chestnut Hill College. This position leads new student orientation initiatives while assisting with housing operations, student conduct, and community development for more than 450 residents across three residence halls. The Associate Director also helps foster an inclusive living environment that promotes belonging and success. The ideal candidate will bring a student-centered, collaborative, and proactive approach to supporting student transition, engagement, and residential life.
This is a 12-month, live-on position that includes participation in the professional staff on-call rotation. Evening and weekend availability is required. Housing and a meal plan are provided as part of the compensation package.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of new student transition programs, including August Orientation, Spring Orientation, and Summer Griffin Day(s) Recruit, train, supervise, and assess student Orientation Planning Team members, including Orientation Coordinators and Orientation Leaders Collaborate with Admissions and campus partners to support incoming student communication, family engagement, and transition efforts Manage orientation-related logistics, budgets, materials, vendors, and event planning Develop and implement engagement initiatives, including First 6 Weeks programming and related retention and success efforts Coordinate educational programming related to student wellness, including alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention Assist with housing operations, including room assignments, room selection, key management, residence hall openings/closings, and coordination of maintenance needs Promote a positive, inclusive, and student-centered community through visible presence, engagement, and day-to-day hall management Mediate student concerns and conflicts, provide appropriate referrals, and adjudicate student conduct matters Serve as a key contributor to departmental planning and student life initiatives that enhance residential and co-curricular experience Represent the Office of Residence Life in the Director’s absence, as needed Participate in the professional staff on-call rotation, including evening and weekend responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Office of Residence Life and Student Life Assume additional responsibilities as directed or assigned by the Director of Housing and Residence Life and/or the Vice President for Student Life.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree required Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant professional experience in residence life, orientation, student affairs, or a related higher education setting Demonstrated experience in student leadership development, program planning, and student support Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse campus constituents Experience with student conduct, housing operations, or related student affairs functions Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student information/database systems
Preferred
Master’s degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or a related field Experience supervising student staff Familiarity with housing management, conduct, and/or student information systems such as Jenzabar Experience working in a small, mission-driven higher education environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, families, and guests Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate student staff Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered campus environment
