This role is responsible for developing and operating systems that simulate high-altitude environments using vacuum generation, compressible flow control, and thermal management. You will work across design and operations to develop systems using multi-stage vacuum systems, mechanical pumps, and motive gas (Steam, GN2, etc) driven ejectors, venturi pumps, and multi-stage systems. This is not a purely analytical role. You will be expected to understand how altitude systems behave during live test operations and support systems from concept through commissioning. You are responsible for making the environment match the mission. Responsibilities Support the design and development of altitude simulation systems, including: Vacuum generation design using motive gas (steam, GN2) or mechanical pumping Ejectors, venturi pumps, multi-stage systems, and mechanical pumps Diffusers and exhaust flow management systems Develop and maintain P&IDs, system layouts, and flow schematics Perform compressible flow analysis including mass flow, pressure ratios, and choked flow behavior Support modeling and evaluation of vacuum performance including pump down behavior, steady-state capability, and transient response Support design and integration of venturi and ejector systems, including nozzle sizing and multi-stage performance Assist in evaluation of thermal effects including heat transfer, icing, condensation, and flow conditioning Support integration of altitude systems with propulsion hardware, controls, and instrumentation Participate in commissioning and live test operations including system tuning and performance validation Troubleshoot system anomalies related to flow, vacuum performance, and thermal behavior Maintain configuration control and ensure accurate as-built documentation Collaborate with Test Operations to ensure systems are operable, reliable, and aligned with test objectives Level Expectations Aerospace Engineer I 0–3 years of experience Supports altitude system design under guidance Assists with calculations, layouts, and documentation Participates in system checkout and test support Aerospace Engineer II 2–5 years of experience Executes portions of system design independently Owns subsystems such as ejector stages or motive gas routing Supports system performance evaluation and troubleshooting
