Description

Overview THE ROLE At Great Dane, we rely on makers and we’re calling on them to join our expanding team. Perform quality control inspection activities at various points in the production process. Incumbent is expected to be knowledgeable and to perform QC activities in all specific areas, such as: fabrication and trailer set-up, general assembly, final assembly inspection of all trailers, and final approval of all trailers. Inspectors must be familiar with all phases of trailer design and construction (dimensions, welds, equipment, and acceptability standards). WHAT YOU’LL DO Quality Inspector I Performs assigned QC area audits (materials, in process, finished product, etc.) to ensure each trailer meets established quality standards for structural integrity, functionality, and appearance. Completes QC checklists identifying items to be corrected prior to release from production. Reports deviations from acceptable QC levels or developing trends to QC Manager and manufacturing personnel. Inform the manufacturing supervisor responsible of problems so that possible corrective action can be initiated during the manufacturing process. Makes final unit assessment of conformance to company quality standards and individual order specifications. Prepares required trailer documentation (DOT-FHWA forms) for distribution. Participates in problem solving team activities including defect cause analysis and prevention. Execute process for non-conforming material areas. Update Built-In Quality (BIQ) Gate KPI board(s) and log appropriate data into RFGen. Perform Critical Audits/ Layered Process Audits consistently per schedule. Performs other routine duties as needed/assigned. Quality Inspector II Capabilities to perform all responsibilities identified under Quality Inspector I. Trained in all BIQ Gates in respective area, including End-Of-Line (EOL) where applicable. Quality Inspector III Capabilities to perform all responsibilities identified under Quality Inspector I and II. Perform detailed Yard Audits per Yard Audit and Multipoint Audit Checklist and report findings. Back-up for Quality Team Lead. Support vendor visits when applicable. Responsibilities YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS) Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; ability to work well in a group problem-solving situation. Solicits internal customer feedback to improve service. Examples of customers would include the Machine Operator, Welder, Assembler, Team Leader, Supervisor, and counterparts in other departments. Inspire and motivate others to perform well; assist in training of new employees as needed. Look for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in use of all supplies. The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a way they meet or exceed the required production level. The quantity of units, parts, assemblies and/or installations expected will vary with the process performed, customer specification, volume, and location. Inspect all trailers as assigned according to quality standards and look for ways to improve upon those standards. Observe all safety and security procedures; participate in Safety Committee and activities as requested; look for ways to improve upon safety within the work area. Experience: Minimum of 3 years in manufacturing environment. Experience in welding is a plus. Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools. Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor’s instruction. Aptitude to learn and retain latest information. Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Ability to read welding and/or engineering drawings. Ability to document written information accurately. Ability to communicate effectively in English. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Office and plant environment. Keyboarding, lifting, standing, bending, walking. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push and pull. Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8-to-12-hour shift. Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping them into place. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness. Employees must wear all mandated PPE which includes at least protection for the eyes, ears, hands, head, body, and feet.
