Description

Job Purpose The Director of Safety and Quality is responsible for the management, direction, and coordination of the Amoroso safety and quality assurance programs. Major Functions of Position Developing short-term and long-term business plans and supporting budgets for the implementation and maintenance of the Amoroso safety and quality control programs. Championing the safety and quality cultures at Amoroso that includes complete buy-in by the Operations and Estimating departments. Participating in local and national safety and health committees when appropriate as the Amoroso representative. Acting as a resource for questions, research, and changes in the Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and all other state and local safety and health codes. Creating and keeping current safety program documentation; including department safety manuals and other information resources. Ensure that these resources are readily available to all employees via Box. Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures for establishing and monitoring Project Safety plans. Develop, maintain, and update the plan for monitoring, coordinating, and auditing the efforts and work product of the safety managers, and other intra-department matters. Communicating safety issues to the company management as they arise. Mechanisms for this will include direct phone notification, regular attendance at monthly meetings, attendance in other management and team meetings as appropriate, published anecdotes in the monthly newsletter, etc. Assist Safety Managers, Project Managers, and Superintendents in the review of project-specific technical documents and the preparation of Jobsite-specific safety plans on special projects. Ensure that Safety Managers are trained to be self-sufficient in assisting the project team in the development of this program on routine projects. Establish and maintain a safety information system capable of meeting Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and company documentation requirements. Managing a team of safety managers to support the implementation of the Amoroso Safety program on each project. This will include coordinating personnel and resource assignments with Operations. Implement a comprehensive safety training program for Operations and Safety Employees. Representing the safety department with our insurance broker and insurance companies. Participate in relevant ACIG (worker’s comp and GL carrier) conferences and meetings. Managing and coordinating the resolution of all Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, and Builders Risk insurance claims. Includes working with Project Executives and Managers to ensure that timely and effective investigations occur after an incident and assisting the Project Manager as required to manage the claim. Assisting in the negotiation and procurement of insurance policies. Work with the estimating departments for the verification of project-specific insurance requirements and ensuring Amoroso complies with all contractual obligations relative to Owner Contracts. Coordinating with Owners and their OCIP administrators on OCIP projects to establish the structure and procedures for insurance and safety requirements. Assisting Human Resources in the recruiting of qualified safety professionals. Working with the IT Manager to identify and implement technology as appropriate to enhance Amoroso’s safety and quality programs. Management of QA/QC Department resources Evaluate the available resources and work with the regional Operations Manager to assign a QA/QC Manager, when applicable to the project. If not applicable, assign the QA/QC responsibilities to a management staff person on the project. Work with QA/QC responsible person and the Project Executive to compile checklist of hot points applicable to assigned projects (Glazing, EIFS, Roofing System, Wall Systems, Water Proofing, Sealants, Metal Panel Systems, and Swimming Pools). Gain an understanding of the client’s needs and areas of elevated concern for quality discussed during the work acquisition phase. Management of Quality Assurance/Quality Control Staff Work in conjunction with the regional Operations Manager in conducting annual performance reviews for QA/QC personnel establishing meaningful goals and an accurate reflection of their performance. Regularly review work products to ensure they are using the standard company processes and procedures. Evaluate, identify, and provide technical training to establish a high level of knowledge of the building systems they are involved in. Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program Regularly evaluate company’s quality standards and practices to reduce risk and support client focus while working with operations leadership to understand how they impact the cost and schedule of the projects. Implement new processes and practices including training QA/QC staff and Operations staff. Participate in peer group and association groups for continuous learning on quality topics and ideas. Present critical quality topics for distribution to the Operations department. Project Start Up Meeting Ensure QA/QC is present at meetings. Provide QA/QC requirements and give input on areas of concern. Participate in studying the details of projects to find potential construction issues. Work with QA/QC personnel to begin documenting the Quality Management Plan (QMP) Pre-Construction Meetings Assist project QA/QC personnel with agendas. Participate in trade contractor meetings for scopes subject to higher risk. Review submittal logs with QA/QC personnel and assist in identifying risks and plans to mitigate. Review submittals for scopes that are subject to higher risk and assist in developing plans to mitigate those risks. Field Walks/Reports Conduct field inspections during construction, make recommendations for correction of deficient workmanship. Participate in water testing exercises, track results, and provide feedback to the team. Work with the field teams during construction to get good working knowledge of the building and its systems. Periodic reviews of materials to ensure that they are in accordance with project requirements. Periodic reviews of installations on all waterproofing, roofing, exterior wall systems and assemblies, sealants, etc. Coordinate between the project teams and private third-party inspection companies to make sure that project specific details are being reviewed and corrected, if necessary. Be present at equipment start-up (commissioning) when possible. Post Construction Report as Lessons Learned , any details that become apparent in the review process, to the rest of the Amoroso employees, so that mistakes can be avoided on future projects. These reports will be distributed to the Company, so that all employees are informed. Act as the “Public Relations Representative” with Owners during warranty issues to maintain good client relations. Skills and Abilities Knowledge and familiarity with Construction processes, practices, and procedures. Strong verbal and written communication. Strong organizational and time management. Proactive attitude and solutions-based approach. Demonstrated ability to adapt well to changes in assignments and priorities. Proven ability to adapt behavior or work methods in response to new information or conditions. Experience with follow-up and monitoring of work to ensure quality standards and attention to detail. A positive attitude and team player mindset. Ability to perform in-house training seminars. Working conditions This is an exempt position and does not qualify for overtime pay. Regular travel to jobsites and regional locations, which may include overnight travel. Physical requirements Regularly required, in an 8-hour day, to sit for 5-8 hours; stand/walk/move around for 1-4 hours. Lifting 15 pounds occasionally with occasional sitting and frequent standing/walking. Able to access and navigate offices and job sites. S.J.
