Description

Chief Information Officer (CIO) We are a law firm of approximately 220 professionals based in Los Angeles, California. Technology is central to how we deliver legal services — we operate a proprietary Salesforce-based platform that serves both clients and internal teams, and we maintain an in-house development organization actively building and expanding that platform. We are committed to technology-driven legal solutions and are seeking an experienced technology executive to lead our information and product development strategy. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will serve as the firm’s senior technology executive, providing strategic leadership across two distinct domains: information governance, cybersecurity, and IT operations; and software product development. The CIO will oversee our development organization — including a Salesforce Certified Technical Architect, a Development Manager, and a Project Manager — while also ensuring the firm’s technology infrastructure, client data, and enterprise systems are secure, compliant, and aligned with business objectives. The CIO will serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership on technology strategy, product development, cybersecurity, AI adoption, and digital transformation. They will work closely with attorneys, operations leaders, and client-facing teams to ensure technology investments drive meaningful improvements in service delivery, operational efficiency, and competitive positioning. Key Responsibilities Technology Strategy & Executive Leadership Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the firm’s business goals, client service objectives, and long-term growth plans. Serve as the senior technology executive responsible for IT operations, software product development, cybersecurity, data governance, and AI strategy. Advise firm leadership on emerging technology trends, risks, and opportunities including AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation relevant to the legal industry. Establish enterprise-wide technology policies, standards, and governance frameworks to ensure effective management and protection of firm and client information assets. Build and maintain a culture of security, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement across the technology organization. Software Product Development & Engineering Leadership Lead and grow a development organization, including direct oversight of a Development Manager, Project Manager, and a Salesforce Certified Technical Architect. Own the product roadmap for the firm’s proprietary Salesforce-based platform, balancing client-facing feature development with internal operational needs. Drive software delivery excellence — establishing and maintaining engineering standards, release management practices, quality assurance, and development lifecycle processes. Collaborate with attorneys, operations leaders, and client service teams to translate business requirements into software solutions that enhance the client experience and firm efficiency. Make informed build-vs-buy decisions, evaluating third-party integrations and tools within the Salesforce and AWS ecosystem. Oversee Salesforce platform licensing, architecture governance, and long-term platform scalability in partnership with the Chief Architect. Cybersecurity, Privacy & Risk Management Lead the development and implementation of cybersecurity strategies, controls, and incident response programs to protect client and firm data. Oversee enterprise risk assessments, vulnerability management, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery initiatives. Ensure the firm meets client security requirements, including responding to client IT security audits and questionnaires. Establish and maintain metrics and reporting for cybersecurity posture, risk exposure, and compliance activities. AI Governance & Innovation Develop and oversee governance frameworks for the responsible use of artificial intelligence across the firm, including within client-facing and internal software products. Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to improve legal service delivery, client experience, operational efficiency, and software capabilities. Establish policies governing AI usage, data privacy, model risk management, and ethical considerations in the legal context. Data Governance & Enterprise Information Management Lead enterprise data governance initiatives to improve data quality, accessibility, retention, and lifecycle management across Salesforce and integrated platforms. Establish policies and procedures for information management, records retention, data classification, and information security. Develop reporting and analytics capabilities to support data-driven decision making by firm leadership. IT Operations & Infrastructure Oversee all IT operations including network infrastructure, end-user support, hardware, and enterprise software systems. Manage the firm’s AWS cloud infrastructure in coordination with the development team and Chief Architect. Evaluate and oversee strategic technology vendors, Salesforce licensing, and third-party service providers. Develop and manage the technology budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources across operations and development. Compliance, Audit & Regulatory Readiness Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy regulations, cybersecurity frameworks, and legal industry standards. Coordinate internal audits, external audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews. Maintain policies, procedures, and training programs supporting regulatory and certification requirements. Qualifications & Experience Required 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including direct management of software development teams. Demonstrated experience leading both IT operations and product/software development organizations simultaneously. Working knowledge of the Salesforce platform ecosystem (Sales Cloud, Experience Cloud, Apex, Lightning Web Components) sufficient to provide informed strategic oversight of a Salesforce development team. Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure and its role in supporting Salesforce-integrated environments. Proven ability to manage and prioritize product roadmaps for both client-facing and internal software platforms. Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, data privacy regulations, and risk management frameworks applicable to professional services environments. Experience managing executive-level stakeholder relationships and translating complex technology concepts for non-technical audiences. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational change management skills. Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Preferred Experience within legal services, legal technology, professional services, financial services, or other highly regulated industries. Experience managing or working alongside Salesforce Certified Technical Architects or similarly credentialed platform leads. Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, or equivalent cybersecurity credentials. Experience leading AI governance programs and enterprise AI adoption initiatives. Background in Salesforce implementation or consulting environments (e.g., Salesforce partner firms or legal tech companies). Advanced degree (MBA, MS in Computer Science, or equivalent) preferred. Compensation & Location Base Salary: $250,000 – $275,000, commensurate with experience. Performance-based annual bonus. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). Location: Los Angeles, California, Remote (West Coast & Mountain Time Preferred) Success Metrics Timely, high-quality delivery of software features and platform enhancements against the product roadmap. Strengthened cybersecurity posture and reduced organizational risk. Positive client and attorney satisfaction with platform performance, reliability, and new capabilities. Effective retention and development of the technology team. Alignment of technology investments with firm strategy and measurable improvements in operational efficiency. Successful compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and client security standards.
