Description

Entrepreneurial Spirit, Rooted in Tradition . At Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Development America (MTDA), we can tout a storied reputation more than 300 years in the making. Our parent company, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation (MTPC), is a research-driven pharmaceutical company with global reach – and one of Japan’s oldest and most respected companies. Relatively new to the U.S. market, the innovative compounds of the Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Group have already enjoyed commercial success under the brand labels of our U.S. partners. In this next phase of development, we plan to bring exciting new compounds to market under our own MT Pharma America label. We’re currently building a new commercial organization and expanding our other functions to support this strategy. Reporting to the Director, Business Development, the Associate Director, Business Development will seek out potential business opportunities through searching available databases and networking with other pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, scientific organizations, academia and related parties. The incumbent will evaluate opportunities primarily from a scientific and strategic point of view, then support further evaluation by the due diligence team, and assist in initial partnership, licensing and/or acquisition negotiations. Ultimately, the Associate Director, Business Development will seamlessly transition the more developed leads to other colleagues for contract finalization, oversight and maintenance, while   maintaining a continuous focus on new lead generation to ensure a steady, robust pipeline of business opportunities. . Build and leverage existing network/contacts within the broad pharmaceutical industry (pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, academia, investors, etc.) to continuously identify new business opportunities. In addition to leveraging personal network, utilize available databases to scout new leads and, as appropriate, recommend promising new databases and resources to the team. Effectively and persuasively present Mitsubishi Tanabe as a preferred partner to all potential leads. Screen, identify and conduct initial scientific evaluation of new business opportunities working closely with colleagues in the US and global business development teams. Participate in cross-functional teams to conduct further business and scientific analyses, working closely with marketing, sales, legal, R&D, CMC and other functions. Leverage relationships and insights as needed to fully support the due diligence process. Support the partnering process including participation in initial partnership, licensing and/or acquisition negotiations. Manage multiple projects at various stages of development. Develop and seamlessly transition mature leads to other colleagues while continuously pursuing new leads to ensure a steady pipeline of business. Perform other duties as assigned. BA or BS in a scientific discipline related to pharmaceuticals (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Animal Science, etc.) Preferred: An advanced science degree (Master's, PhD or MD). Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Preferred: 5 years of experience specifically in business development or product evaluation/investment identifying potential business opportunities. Highly preferred: a strong scientific background with R&D or project management experience. Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical clinical development process associated with FDA regulations. Knowledge of clinical and commercial unmet needs across a variety of therapeutic areas, and preferably, knowledge of the CNS therapeutic area and movement disorders in particular. An existing network of contacts within the industry that can be leveraged to develop new business opportunity leads. Strong multitasking skills to manage leads at varying stages of development. Outstanding oral/written communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills. Willingness to travel as needed primarily in North America. Our Value Proposition: Enjoy the fast-moving, entrepreneurial spirit more typically found in a small biotech, complemented by the benefits of a global pharmaceutical/chemical conglomerate. At this time, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America offers our employees unparalleled opportunities for career success coupled with a supportive level of employee benefits: Medical/Dental Life Insurance | Supplemental Life Insurance/Dependent Life Insurance |Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance | Business Travel Accident Insurance | Short-Term Disability | Long-Term Disability | Flexible Spending Accounts | Employee’s Savings Plan (401K Plan) | Competitive Paid Time Off
