    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY is currently recruiting for a Chemical Stockroom Technical Specialist</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The Chemical Stockroom Technical Specialist is responsible for the full operational management of the Chemistry stockroom and instructional laboratories.This is a senior-level technical position requiring demonstrated experience in chemical stockroom management, hazardous waste compliance, laboratory preparation, chemical inventory systems, equipment maintenance coordination, and safety oversight.</p>\n<p>The successful candidate must have prior experience managing chemical stockroom or laboratory operations in an academic, industrial, or research environment.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<li>Stockroom and Laboratory Operations</li>\n<li>Oversee all daily operations of the chemical stockroom</li>\n<li>Prepare stock solutions, unknowns, and reagents to precise specifications (molarity, % w/v, % v/v, etc.)</li>\n<li>Coordinate laboratory setup and breakdown for multiple concurrent laboratory sections</li>\n<li>Verify equipment functionality prior to instructional use</li>\n<li>Maintain GHS-compliant labeling and chemical storage practices</li>\n<li>Ensure stockroom security and restricted access</li>\n<p>Accuracy and reliability are critical. Errors directly impact student safety, regulatory compliance, and academic outcomes.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Safety and Regulatory Compliance</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Maintain and manage current Safety Data Sheets (SDS)</li>\n <li>Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, and OCC Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan requirements</li>\n <li>Oversee hazardous waste accumulation, labeling, storage, documentation, and reporting</li>\n <li>Complete and maintain Hazardous Waste Forms and related regulatory records</li>\n <li>Coordinate with the Chemical Hygiene Officer and Environmental Health and Safety personnel</li>\n <li>Train laboratory instructors and stockroom staff in laboratory safety procedures</li>\n <li>Ensure safe handling and storage of hazardous chemicals and pressurized gases</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Stockroom coverage is required whenever wet laboratories are in session.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Equipment and Instrumentation</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Coordinate routine maintenance and service contracts for balances, spectrophotometers, water purification systems, and related laboratory equipment</li>\n <li>Manage gas cylinder inventory and regulator setup</li>\n <li>Prepare and maintain analytical instruments, including LC-MS, GC-MS, FT-IR, and HPLC systems</li>\n <li>Schedule service technicians and submit maintenance work orders</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Staff Supervision and Training</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Hire, train, schedule, and supervise part-time stockroom staff</li>\n <li>Assign duties based on training level and laboratory requirements</li>\n <li>Provide ongoing safety training and operational oversight</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Inventory and Budget Support</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Maintain a comprehensive and accurate chemical inventory system</li>\n <li>Monitor reagent usage and place timely purchase orders</li>\n <li>Manage gas cylinder ordering and returns to control rental costs</li>\n <li>Assist with laboratory supply budgeting and tracking</li>\n <li>Coordinate proper disposal of surplus chemicals and obsolete equipment</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Remote Position</h2>No\n<h2>Min Compensation </h2>USD $49,984.00/Yr.\n<h2>Max Compensation </h2>USD $49,984.00/Yr.\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalency</li>\n <li>Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing a chemical stockroom or laboratory operations environment</li>\n <li>Demonstrated responsibility for hazardous waste handling, regulatory compliance, and required documentation</li>\n <li>Demonstrated responsibility for maintaining and auditing chemical inventory systems</li>\n <li>Demonstrated responsibility for laboratory preparation, scheduling coordination, and equipment oversight</li>\n <li>Experience supervising or directing technical or student staff</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to maintain organized, efficient, and safety-focused laboratory operations</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Experience in an academic instructional laboratory environment</li>\n <li>Experience with analytical instrumentation (GC-MS, LC-MS, FT-IR, HPLC)</li>\n <li>Experience implementing or improving laboratory organization and tracking systems</li>\n <li>Interest in long-term professional growth within laboratory operations</li>\n <li>Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>KNOWELDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Strong understanding of laboratory safety and regulatory compliance</li>\n <li>Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy</li>\n <li>Strong organizational and time management skills</li>\n <li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty</li>\n <li>Commitment to maintaining a secure, professional, and safety-focused laboratory environment</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Information:</strong></p>\n<p>CSEA position grade 7, anticipated salary is $49,984.
