About the Role
With offices in Burnaby, Kelowna, Victoria, and Courtenay, BC, we are looking for enthusiastic Utility Locating Technician Trainee wanting to further their careers and grow with our passionate and forward-thinking team. The ideal candidate will have an industry-related qualification and utility locating experience. Knowledge of GPR systems is an asset.
As our Utility Locating Technician Trainee, your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
Visiting various work sites (will be required to work in all weather conditions), some out of town for a couple of days or weeks assignment
Assisting the technicians on field
Reading and interpreting site plans, construction print data and maps, to assist in location of subsurface utility facilities
Locating and marking subsurface utilities with a range of geophysical tools
Following all health and safety protocols
On your resume, we will be looking for the following:
Valid class 5 BC driver's license as required for use of company vehicle
Previous construction or trade experience is an asset
Experience in geophysical surveys, land surveying, or geomatics is an asset
Strong computer literacy, including expertise in AutoCAD, ArcGIS and GPS is an asset
During the interview process, we will be looking for:
How you demonstrate our shared value set of excellence (pushing yourself to be the very best), innovation (your ability to try new things and be okay with failing), community (how you give to your community, either micro or macro) and honesty (how you own your mistakes, even if it might mean you don’t always look as good as you hoped!)
Exceptional interpersonal skills: your ability to communicate to all levels of an organization with a positive, proactive attitude. This includes understanding how to read a room and meet the needs of the team!
Examples of excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills through asking good questions and completing solid analysis
Examples of your ability to work independently and autonomously, as well as collaboratively across several teams
Strong leadership and communication skills
Capable of improvising and troubleshooting in the field
Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities
