Description

Position Summary Description Conducts transmission studies to ensure reliability and support the expansion of the electric transmission system, collaborating with diverse stakeholders that include Florida Reliability Coordinating Council, Seminole members, internal departments, and industry partners. The work includes, but not limited to, power flow analysis, voltage studies, short circuit analysis, and implementation of regulatory reliability standards. Performs studies and analyses that reflect current and future transmission system configurations and recommends upgrades, system modifications and/or expansion to transmission system facilities based on load growth, generation interconnection, and identified reliability needs. The position analyzes data, drafts reports and provides engineering recommendation and works under the technical direction and guidance of more senior engineers. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Degree concentration or significant coursework in power system is preferred. Proficiency in applying foundational engineering concepts, gained through educational coursework, is essential. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in power system simulation & technical documentation is a plus. Core Competencies : Adaptable, Collaborative, Conscientious, Critical-Thinking, Outcome-Driven and Professional Technical Competencies/Skills : Strong foundation of electrical engineering principles Adept at navigating technical documents (drawings, manuals, etc.) Computational problem-solving expertise to engineering problems Programming proficiency Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical report writing Soft Competencies/Skills : Effective verbal/nonverbal, listening, and written communications Critical thinking and problem solving Planning and organization Proactive initiative and attention to detail Self-starter and eager to learn Essential Functions Participates in the development and review of electrical computer simulations models of transmission lines and substations for transmission planning databases Supports the development and review of innovative and environmentally acceptable transmission plans to ensure safe, reliable, effective, and efficient operations of the electric transmission system Participates in transmission interconnection studies and affected system studies for generation owners that address feasibility, system impacts, economics, and project execution scheduling Provides input and support to other internal departments on transmission matters such as substation capacity increases, transformer upgrades and/or replacements, line conductor replacements, operations support, and reliability upgrades. Develops Python scripts enabled programs for computer simulation tools May participate in initiatives, work groups and/or industry forums that supports the inclusion of Seminole’s interests. Participates in the power system steady-state contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, dynamic stability analysis and single point of failure analysis of the interconnected transmission system Supports the development and implementation of documentation for transmission planning compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards and FRCC modeling requirements Participates in detailed technical analysis for the development of long-term transmission system expansion plans Analyzes data, drafts reports, and collaborates with colleagues on assigned tasks Assists in the preparation of reports, documents and presentations as needed Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned NERC Compliance : Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM. Internal/External Stakeholders and Industry Groups Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) North American Regulatory Corporation (NERC) Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Neighboring Utilities Seminole’s Engineering and Maintenance, Operations Planning, Transmission Services, Load Forecasting, Finance, Budgets and Planning, Legal, and Environmental Physical Requirements Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), and respiratory equipment may be required. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report. Working Conditions Normal office conditions. Some travel and work outside of normal business hours to technical seminars, conferences, professional meetings, and meetings with Member cooperative headquarters may be required.
