Adult Mobile Crisis Certified Peer Support
Job Description: Make a real difference when it matters most- join our mobile crisis team and be the calm voice people need in their toughest moments. As a peer support specialist, your lived experience becomes a powerful tool for hope, connection, and recovery. Step into a role where every shift has purpose and every conversation can change a life. The Peer Support Specialist on the Adult Mobile Crisis Team (AMCT) programs provide immediate and non-clinical support to individuals experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use crises. The Peer Support will be utilizing their lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges, they contribute to the crisis intervention team, offering empathy, understanding, and practical assistance to promote stabilization and recovery. This is a part-time, hourly position that works Saturdays-Sundays, 7pm-7am.
What you’ll be doing:
Respond to crisis situations in community settings and in homes.
Provide de-escalation and emotional support to individuals experiencing a crisis.
Share personal lived experience to inspire hope and recovery.
Assist in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies. Model coping strategies.
Provide insights from a lived experience perspective to enhance the understanding of the crisis team.
Assist with initial assessment to identify individual needs during a crisis.
Advocate for patients and provide guidance and support that is self-driven for an individual to identify their own recovery pathway.
Collaborate with the crisis team and individual to set short-term goals.
Assist in developing and implementing crisis management plans, safety plans, relapse prevention plans, and coping strategies.
Educate on overcoming crises, decreasing isolation, and promoting connection with others.
Maintain accurate and detailed client progress notes and peer notes, documenting observations, interactions, and any notable incidents.
Answer the crisis telephone, providing immediate support and appropriate interventions when necessary.
Find, access, and offer community resources to address the diverse needs of individuals in crisis.
Communicate with and foster positive working relationships with team members and external community organizations/resources.
Attend scheduled team meetings to collaborate with colleagues, discuss individual cases, and contribute to overall program development.
Attend weekly peer-to-peer supervision to receive and provide support, share experiences, and engage in professional development.
Safely transport individuals to necessary locations as needed.
Perform billing tasks as needed, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with relevant regulations.
Work closely with law enforcement, first responders and multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective crisis response and resolution.
Provide follow-up support to individuals after a crisis response in a timely manner, documenting follow-ups accurately.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
Must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Prior certification as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) with the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) preferred or be willing to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
Requires one (1) year of experience providing peer support services.
Valid driver’s license and active liability insurance.
Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
Demonstrate commitment to and fulfill duties of role in line with WellStone’s standards of care for all those seeking recovery.
Share direct experience in mental help or substance use challenges.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-needs environment
Ability to establish respectful and trusting peer-to-peer relationships
Knowledge of recovery and wellness planning.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of and the ability to comply with HIPAA privacy and security regulations
Familiarity with use of electronic health record (EHR) in completion of peer notes and other documentation.
Support the team and be respectful of others.
Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions scheduled.

The Peer Support Specialist on the Adult Mobile Crisis Team (AMCT) programs provide immediate and non-clinical support to individuals experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use crises. The Peer Support will be utilizing their lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges, they contribute to the crisis intervention team, offering empathy, understanding, and practical assistance to promote stabilization and recovery. This is a part-time, hourly position that works Saturdays-Sundays, 7pm-7am. \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nWhat you’ll be doing:\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\tRespond to crisis situations in community settings and in homes. \\r\\n\\tProvide de-escalation and emotional support to individuals experiencing a crisis. \\r\\n\\tShare personal lived experience to inspire hope and recovery. \\r\\n\\tAssist in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
