The Museum recently celebrated its 150th anniversary and completed a strategic plan focused on encouraging a love for nature, levering science and collections for conservation, and using our own voice to be here for nature.</span></p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><br></span></p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\" data-pasted=\"true\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">The San Diego Natural History Museum is looking to hire one full-time, temporary <strong>Invertebrate Zoologist (Biologist I)&nbsp;</strong>to assist the Invertebrate Zoology and BioServices Departments. The Invertebrate Zoologist position assists the Curator of Invertebrate Zoology, and other Supervisory project staff as assigned by the Curator, with lab investigations of pollinators throughout San Diego County (i.e., Hymenoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera). This position is part of a larger project focused on plant-pollinator interactions, with the main goal of identifying unknown pollinators of rare plants using novel field and lab technologies. The primary responsibilities of the incumbent will be to identify and digitize specimens, conduct macro photography of pinned specimens, and help create an AI training data set for pollinators of San Diego County.&nbsp;</span></p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><strong>Major Responsibilities:</strong></span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;margin-left: 21.5px;\"><li style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><u>Specimen Imaging</u>:&nbsp;Imaging of specimens to include lab photography with in-house camera setup, including high quality 2D, image stacking, processing, and file management, using standardized protocols, and field-based macro photography. Preserved specimen photography will rely on macro skills to creatively take lab-based photos, with AI training in mind, that can be used to identify specimens in field-based photos.</li><li style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><u>AI training data set creation:</u> Based on newly taken macro photographs of preserved specimens, and existing photos of live specimens, help to create an AI training data set specific to San Diego to automatically identify pollinators from photos.&nbsp;</li><li style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\"><u>Pollinator Biology</u>: Work will involve familiarity with pollinator (Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera) identification and morphology.
