Description
Summary : Reporting to the Shop Supervisor. Charleston Southern University has a vacancy for a full-time Maintenance Specialist/Plumber.
Work Performed: Performing professional level plumbing repairs and maintenance. Clearing clogged waste lines, main waste lines, and vent stacks using appropriate equipment. Repairing or installing all types of plumbing piping including PVC, copper, cast iron, and galvanized pipe. Repairing all types of shower valves, isolation valves, metering valves, and flush valves used in commercial facilities such as toilets, urinals, and sinks including automatic faucets. Diagnosing and repairing plumbing equipment such as gas or electric water heaters, circulation pumps, etc. Diagnosing plumbing system issues such as waste drain or water flow problems. Providing relevant input regarding recommended plumbing materials for new or renovated buildings. Providing accurate campus and building water and plumbing system information to plumbing contractors. Ability to read building plans. Maintaining pool water and pool facilities per SC DHEC (ability to take water samples to determine water chemistry, safely add dry or liquid chemicals to adjust water chemistry as required to keep within SC DHEC specifications and operate and maintain pool equipment such as salt generators and pumps and filters). Will keep an accurate inventory of pool chemicals and store and handle chemicals per all required safety procedures and providing training and guidance to an assistant plumber. Work may be in hot, cold, dusty, rainy, windy, and noisy conditions and in other inclement weather. Work may require lifting as much as 75 pounds. Working requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting. Employees work independently using work assigned via work orders or direct orders from supervisor. Internal contacts include faculty, staff, and students. External contacts include sales personnel from major plumbing equipment suppliers and plumbing contractors. Other duties as assigned including helping other maintenance specialist trades?

Human Sexuality
Matthew 19:4-5 “ . . . [God] . . . made them at the beginning ‘male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’[.]” Sexuality is one of the ways the marriage covenant between a husband and a wife is sealed and expressed. Marriage is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards and the means for the procreation of the human race. All forms of sexual intimacy that occur outside the covenant of heterosexual marriage, even when consensual, are distortions of the holiness and beauty God intended for it. The promotion or practice of a homosexual lifestyle (including same-sex dating behaviors) is also contrary to the university’s core values. The promotion of transgenderism fails to uphold the university’s core values.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7a “ . . . these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children . . .” Matthew 28:19-20 “ . . . make disciples of all the nations . . . teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you . . .” Christianity is the faith of enlightenment and intelligence . . . All sound learning is, therefore, a part of our Christian heritage. The new birth opens all human faculties and creates a thirst for knowledge. Moreover, the cause of education in the Kingdom of Christ is co-ordinate with the causes of missions and general benevolence, and should receive along with these the liberal support of the churches. An adequate system of Christian education is necessary to a complete spiritual program for Christ's people.
