Description
The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) is the original “born in Brooklyn.” We were founded in 1891, and for 130 years, BKS has helped provide high-quality early childhood education to working families. BKS has grown up with the borough and continues to be a leader in equitable access to early childhood education. We provide full day, year-round academic experiences and care for children ages 2-5 years old. Our curriculum is play based and marries together reading, writing, movement and music, with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning. Our goal is to ensure that Brooklyn’s youngest learners have an equitable first educational step.
Teacher's Aides provide support to the Group and Assistant teacher in implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum (Creative Curriculum) for the assigned classroom, as provided by classroom lesson plan or team. The Aide will work closely with children, staff members, and families to ensure that the center runs smoothly and children’s needs are met each day. They will assist with the supervision of all children, implementing classroom activities, work cooperatively with and support other classroom staff and volunteers, and assist with the general maintenance of the classroom to insure the health and safety of the children of the program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Planning and Program Implementation
Planning Understand the goals and objectives of BKS Grasp curriculum goals and objectives and articulate what children are learning about each unit Have an understanding of how children will achieve those goals through academic and social activities I dentify classroom materials needed to support the implementation of the curriculum towards achieving goals. Program Implementation E ngage in children in conversation P rovide positive guidance for children Support in lesson plan implementation Provide assistance during meal times, bathroom breaks, and handwashing breaks. Additional Educational and non-Educational Duties
Assessment system Support assistant and group teachers with assessment responsibilities like maintaining observation logs and other running records N avigate systems like Teaching Strategies GOLD online (assessment system). Supervision A ssist t o provide consistent supervision that takes into account developmentally appropriate activities and health needs of the group and individual child. Relationship Building Foster relationships with key stakeholders e.g., teachers, family workers/social workers, parents and guardians for the purposes of school readiness.
Promoting professional growth A ssume responsibility for professional performance and self-reflection Other
Fulfill roles as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse and Neglect Polices. Foster relationships with key stakeholders e.g., teachers, family workers/social workers, parents and guardians for the purposes of school readiness.
