The ideal candidate will have experience with the LAMP environment management of Linux servers and administration of multiple database systems, including MySQL / MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. This role is critical to ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of our systems and databases.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Key Responsibilities</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Database Management</span>: Design, implement, and maintain MySQL / MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and data integrity.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Linux Server Administration</span>: Manage and optimize Debian and Ubuntu Linux servers used to  host applications and databases. Responsibilities would include system updates, security patches, and performance tuning.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">LAMP Stack Support</span>: Configure and troubleshoot LAMP stack environments, ensuring integration of Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, and PHP-based applications.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Performance Optimization</span>: Monitor and optimize database and server performance, including query tuning, indexing, and resource allocation.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Backup and Recovery</span>: Implement, Test and Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for databases and Linux servers to ensure business continuity.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Security Management</span>: Enforce security best practices, including user access control, encryption, and vulnerability management for both databases and Linux systems.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Automation</span>: Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine administrative tasks and improve system efficiency.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Troubleshooting</span>: Diagnose and resolve issues related to databases, Linux servers, and LAMP stack components in a timely manner.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Documentation</span>: Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures for system and database administration.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Collaboration</span>: Work closely with the IT Manager, Developers, System Administrators, and other stakeholders to support application deployment and system integration.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Experience</span>: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Linux and Database Administrator, with hands-on expertise in MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Technical Skills</span>:\n<ul>\n<li>Proficient in Linux server administration (e.g., Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat).</li>\n<li>Strong knowledge of LAMP stack configuration and troubleshooting.</li>\n<li>Expertise in database administration, including schema design, performance tuning, and backup/recovery for MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.</li>\n<li>Familiarity with scripting languages for automation.</li>\n<li>Experience with monitoring tools and database management tools (e.g., DBeaver, pgAdmin etc).</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Certifications</span>: Preferred certifications include MySQL/MariaDB certifications, PostgreSQL certifications, or Microsoft SQL Server certifications.</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Soft Skills</span>: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Education</span>: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field would be an advantage especially if coupled with relevant professional experience.</li>\n<li>\n</li></ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Working Conditions</span></p>\n<p>Full-time position with occasional after-hours availability for upgrades or system issues.</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Well, established South African company located in Stellenbosch.
