Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Electrical Engineer with 8–10 years of progressive experience within the electrical distribution transformer industry. This role is responsible for the design, development, optimization, testing, and continuous improvement of medium and low voltage electrical distribution transformers and related electrical systems. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Research & Development teams to ensure products meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, operational efficiency targets, and company quality standards. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in transformer design principles, electrical systems, manufacturing processes, cost optimization, and product performance analysis. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, project leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to support both new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This role will be onsite in Bristol, WI. Relocation Assistance is available.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop electrical distribution transformers including dry-type, pad-mounted, pole-mounted, liquid-filled, and specialty transformer products.
Perform electrical calculations and analysis related to:
Core and coil design
Impedance
Loss evaluation
Thermal performance
Short-circuit withstand capability
Voltage regulation
Efficiency optimization
Develop and review transformer drawings, schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation.
Interpret and apply customer specifications, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support new product introduction (NPI) initiatives from concept through production launch.
Evaluate design alternatives for manufacturability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for product failures and field issues.
Partner closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams to improve product quality, throughput, and operational efficiency.
Provide technical support to production teams during transformer assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
Review and resolve production non-conformances and engineering deviations.
Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives.
Assist in implementing engineering changes and maintaining configuration control processes.
Support electrical testing activities including:
Routine testing
Design validation testing
Heat run testing
Impulse testing
Short-circuit testing
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards including:
IEEE
ANSI
NEMA
UL
CSA
DOE efficiency requirements
Analyze test data and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
Collaborate with Quality teams to investigate warranty claims and customer concerns.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional internal teams regarding technical requirements and product solutions.
Provide engineering support to Sales and Commercial teams during quotation and bid review processes.
Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews as required.
Mentor junior engineers and engineering technicians.
Support strategic initiatives involving product standardization, cost optimization, and innovation.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
8–10 years of progressive engineering experience within the electrical distribution transformer industry required.
Experience with medium voltage and low voltage transformer design strongly preferred.
Experience with Dry-Type Transformers strongly preferred.
Experience supporting manufacturing operations in a high-volume industrial environment preferred.
Prior experience in sustaining engineering, product development, or R&D engineering environments preferred.
Strong understanding of:
Electromagnetic theory
Transformer design principles
Electrical power systems
Thermal dynamics
Insulation systems
Short-circuit analysis
Knowledge of transformer materials including:
Copper and aluminum windings
Core steel
Insulation systems
Dielectric fluids
Proficiency in electrical calculations and engineering analysis tools.
Experience interpreting and applying:
IEEE standards
