    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator and in accordance with the mission of the <strong>YMCA of Catawba Valley</strong>, the <strong>Swim Instructor</strong> is responsible for teaching swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA program standards. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><em>This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.</em></p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Teach swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA standards </li>\n <li>Create a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasm </li>\n <li>Be safety-conscious, maintain order and enforce rules during lessons to ensure swimmer safety </li>\n <li>Keep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student, each session</li>\n <li>Provide each student with written records of progress </li>\n <li>Use swim aids effectively to maximize each individual’s practice time </li>\n <li>Utilize written lesson plans for each lesson to make the most efficient use of class time</li>\n <li> Participate in all staff meetings and in-service training </li>\n <li>Conduct program evaluations </li>\n <li>Carries out additional duties as assigned by supervisor</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>All YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment. This includes following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members</strong></p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>Must be at least 15 years old </strong></li>\n <li>Must successfully complete, and maintain current certification, as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (24 hours) prior to teaching alone or within 90 days if a current Red Cross Swim Instructor </li>\n <li>Current status in the following certifications, to be renewed annually: \n  <ul>\n   <li>Professional Level CPR </li>\n   <li>First Aid </li>\n   <li>Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) </li>\n   <li>Oxygen Administration </li>\n  </ul></li>\n <li>Must complete the following trainings before working first shift and are to be renewed annually: Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention. </li>\n <li>Must complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection prior to employment </li>\n <li>Must complete I Create Loyalty Training within 30 days of hire </li>\n <li>Must successfully complete at least 4 hours teaching under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator or an experienced instructor before leading a class independently </li>\n <li>Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills </li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Benefits</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Employee Assistance Program</li>\n <li>Retirement Contribution</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>OUR YMCA CULTURE:</strong></p>\n<p>Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture.
