Internship Description and Requirements: BLDM is the national leader of electro-mechanical and telecommunications work in the construction industry. Our philosophy is based on safety and customer first conduct, mutual trust, hard work, and team building. We are dedicated to fostering a work environment that challenges, enriches, and rewards everyone. We believe in continuous performance improvement through the ongoing challenge of our standards of excellence and productivity required. Our Summer Internship Program formally began in 2016 and has proven to be a powerful and successful recruiting tool, helping us to find the brightest young talent to bring fresh and innovative new ideas to BLDM. Successful intern candidates will work as Field Engineers for 8 summer weeks. Therefore, the overall goal of the program is to recruit the best of the best mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers or project management students each year with the hope of breading future candidates for full time professional positions. Our internship program also seeks to create a remarkable and unparallel learning experience for students, so that they will think enthusiastically about the electro-mechanical and telecommunication construction industry. Each summer, we strive to ensure that students experience the benefits of working for a modern 21st Century construction company, where they can gain valuable hands-on experience, working directly with project managers, field engineers, supervisors, and foremen in the field.   We sincerely hope that our efforts create a pipeline for the best of the best to join BLDM upon graduation and keep BLDM’s supervisors in touch with the new generations of professionals by providing superior groups of candidates to preview each year. This internship program will be unique, and all students will gain valuable experience which will help them understand more about our industry. It will provide college students with on-the-job training and experience while making important contributions to our organization.  For 8 weeks, Interns will be working on construction projects and will be shadowing and assisting experience project engineers and managers. These projects often involve analyzing details and finding better solutions or approaches.  We do our best so that our internship gives real-world experience to each student. They will gain a tremendous amount of information and knowledge about how a construction or pre-construction phase runs and, overall, how a project operates. It will be up to them to learn as much as possible because the internship is what they make of it. The more they put into their work, the more they will get out of their experience for their professional future. REQUIREMENT AND Physical Working conditions Tasks will mostly pertain to the construction or assigned field work, and the above-mentioned projects and Interns will oversee the design and planning at a strategic level and implement those plans under the supervision of their Mentor.  Research in Internet and computer work on excel, PowerPoint, and access will be a big part of the internship.  The following skills are required and/or preferred: GPA 3.00 or above (unofficial transcript). Letter of recommendation from a college professor or dean. A 500 words essay explaining why you want to join this program and professional plan. Also, explain do you see working in BLDM after graduation? Advanced Computer skills, Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (excel and access) software is a plus. Assistance, punctuality, initiative, and commitment to learn are essential skills to this program. Bilingual English/Spanish. Inventory and Logistic theory and background required. Availability and capacity to work performing labor work for moving equipment and materials. Office and active field working environment including, general information gathering, project management and field labor work. It is necessary to be able to walk/climb in active industrial and construction project’s locations and on uneven surfaces and out-of-the-way areas. Must be comfortable with altitude locations. Continuous exposure to sun, and occasional inclement weather conditions and travel is required. It also requires interns to be very flexible, quick thinkers, enthusiastic, open minded and self-motivated, because in our field, things can change very quickly, and you need to be ready for any situation that comes up. Participating in this internship program requires a lot of hard work and dedication; therefore, interns are not allowed to hold a second job or study during their internship. Internship positions are open to college students in their senior years, with the intent on completing their college requirements for an internship experience in electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, environmental, logistics, project management, and any other related majors in the engineering or construction management field. The ideal candidate will work 40 hours per week in this internship position. We will pay $11.00 per hour during the term of the Internship and are covered under the company worker’s compensation plan. There is no expectation of regular work after. Housing or transportation allowances will not be provided. Internship will take place from June 1st – August 5, 2026 (9.5 weeks), Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. (45 minutes’ lunch break, and there may be occasional early morning and/or evening meetings required). As part of the program Interns will be assisting in day-to-day operations in the assigned construction project and delegated functions or tasks and should work and present a written project before the end of the Internship using the instructions described here below. The intern will be also required to orally brief his project and internship experience. Every intern is required to complete a project, regardless of if your college or university requires it or not, or the amount of time working in the internship. The reason being is to provide the experience of designing and presenting a project from start to end, working on their own or with other Interns (whichever applies). GENERAL TASKS AND DUTIES: 1.Intern should assist engineers and perform the task assigned by the Mentor. 2. Coordinates project activities with direct supervision from Project and/or Operations Manager. 3. Performs accounting activities with assistance. 4. Performs estimating functions as requested with assistance. 5. Complete a special project on an assigned topic. 6. Performs other duties as assigned. WORK ACTIVITIES TO BE COMPLETE DURING THE PROGRAM During the first two weeks you must complete the following activities Ask your mentor to set up a day for you to work with another staff member. Write a one-page report of what you learn from him and the company. Research about BLDM’s history and what make us successful. Gather data from internet and interview several members of the staff. Make a one-page report. Interview a Project Engineer about their job and their professional career. Present the results of the interview, questions, and answers. Interview a Foremen about their job and spend a day in the field with them. Make a one-page report of your lessons learn. Organize the project warehouse and create an inventory to track what goes in and out of that room. Prepare a report of what you learn in the process and make recommendations on what can be improve. Ask your mentor to invite you in a meeting and takes notes for him. Make a written minute. Conduct a safety inspection on an ongoing project and prepare a report with findings, observations, and recommendations based on applicable OSHA regulations. Assist a Project Manager in the planning and tracking of a construction schedule, documenting challenges and how they were addressed. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPECIAL PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND PRESENTATION: At the beginning of your internship, interns will be assigning a mentor. In coordination with their mentor, they will choose one of the following topics for your final project: ❖ Innovative applications of technology and AI in construction (drones, BIM, AI Tools). Propose practical ways to use AI for planning, safety, or predictive maintenance. Examples: ❖ Analysis of Processes & Efficiency Analysis (Improve Performance and Effectiveness). Examples:     O Identify sustainable practices in construction and propose how they can be integrated into the company's projects (e.g., waste reduction, use of recycled materials, energy efficiency).     O Identify tools to measure and improve productivity at worksites, including specific KPIs. ❖ Innovation: Turn a foresight vision into a job or service model. Example: Identify sustainable practices in construction and propose how they can be integrated into the company's projects (e.g., waste reduction, use of recycled materials, energy efficiency). ❖ Safety Behavior and Leadership Improvement. Please, have in mind, the special project is not about what we are developing, the purpose is that you bring a new idea, innovation of foresight to our team. THINK OUT OF THE BOX. Based on the topic you choose: • Conduct an assessment evaluation on the assigned project conditions and its operations. • Make the recommendations for improvement base on your best practices research (Special Project described above). • Write a detailed report in a formal paper. • Make a short Power Point presentation including details of your project with additional sections described below. You will have 10 minutes for briefing. • Prepared to present you project to the BLDM’s President and Executive team. Additionally, you will have to add to your Power Point: a briefing of your experience during the first 8 weeks of your Internship Program including the following: (1) Bio (who you are, where you are studying, which is your line of study, what are your hobbies, why you choose BLDM internship? (2) What challenges you faced during your internship? (3) What were the Lessons Learned? (4) What is your gain from your relationship with your Mentor, what did you learned from him/her?
