Description Nuclear Electrician (Journeyman)- Plant Hatch Join the Southern Nuclear team at Plant Hatch – a provider of clean, reliable nuclear energy for more than 50 years – located in Baxley, Ga., in Appling County along the Altamaha River. The area offers a rural mix, blending small‑town living with convenient regional access, making it a strong fit for families and young professionals alike. There is affordable living, a strong sense of community and ample access to outdoor recreation, including fishing, kayaking and golf. Residents benefit from desirable local school systems, family-friendly events and convenient access to health care, shopping, dining and entertainment with only a short drive to Savannah, Statesboro and Georgia’s coast. Summary To accomplish electrical maintenance activities on both nuclear safety-related and non safety-related components by performance of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and planned and unplanned corrective maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation of a nuclear generating station. Be available for work when required to ensure an adequate pool of manpower to analyze and correct plant equipment issues. This position will be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions is considered to be a condition of continued employment requiring the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 90 minutes of notification of an emergency. This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement. The union determines seniority which is used to select shift, vacation, and holidays. Position Description A Journeyman Electrician will use his/her training and knowledge of a broad variety of electrical circuitry, HVAC and refrigeration, and other associated skills as called upon to support the plant. This position will demonstrate proficiency in and qualify to perform electrical maintenance required for maintenance and repair, including maintaining and repairing power plant equipment; working on both energized and de-energized equipment; following procedures/prints to install and maintain equipment; assembling and disassembling components using proper rigging and lifting techniques; troubleshooting equipment; and properly using electrical test equipment. This position is required to maintain proficiency and periodic re-certification is mandatory. Electrician responsibilities are to test, repair, maintain, overhaul, and modify all electrical plant components at the highest level of skill in accordance with nuclear procedures. Principle Accountabilities Understand the theory, operation, and troubleshooting of plant equipment. Ensure efficient and reliable operation of station equipment through preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting activities on non-safety and safety-related plant equipment. Repair and overhaul plant electrical equipment. Investigate plant equipment failures/deficiencies with Engineering Department, Shop Supervisor, and vendors in order to correct problems and improve reliability of plant equipment. Perform Quality Control (QC) activities. Participate in and successfully complete the Maintenance Training Program as required. Continually improve the quality of electrical maintenance procedures through the established feedback and revision processes. Assist training as a SME in reviewing and preparing training materials and mock-ups. Guide, direct, and train other employees as required. Work shift work in support of maintenance activities as required and potentially as a job lead for electrical maintenance jobs. Incumbent is accountable for miscellaneous other responsibilities as assigned or required. Live within 90 minutes of the plant site in order to respond as a member of the Emergency Response Organization. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must meet position requirements. Demonstrate competency through the established testing procedures by qualifying on the EEI MASS pre-employment test at the nuclear level. Ability to utilize computer-based maintenance management system. Ability to read and follow procedures and electrical drawings/prints is required. Knowledge to troubleshoot electrical circuits and controls using prints and test equipment is required. Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems; certification preferred. Ability to use various electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeter, amprobe, megger, etc.) required. Ability to use powered and non-powered hand tools proficiently is required. Ability to plan work to maximize production is required. Knowledge of nuclear reactor systems and interrelationship preferred, but not required. Previous HVAC/Chiller experience preferred. Previous nuclear experience preferred. Education and Training High School diploma/GED is required. Completion of Technical School with documented certification or certified completion of Accredited IBEW Electrical Apprenticeship Program with documented evidence desired. 3 years Nuclear Journeyman Electrician experience or 5 years of equivalent critical industry electrical maintenance experience is required. Demonstrated Competencies Demonstrate concern for safety of self and others. Good verbal and written communication skills, high level of attention to detail, and able to work efficiently as a member of a team. Accept responsibility for own performance and be adaptable to changing requirements. Conduct task performance evaluations. This position will demonstrate proficiency in and qualify to perform electrical maintenance required for maintenance and repair, including maintaining and repairing power plant equipment; working on both energized and de-energized equipment; following procedures/prints to install and maintain equipment; assembling and disassembling components using proper rigging and lifting techniques; troubleshooting equipment; and properly using electrical test equipment. This position is required to maintain proficiency and periodic re-certification is mandatory. Electrician responsibilities are to test, repair, maintain, overhaul, and modify all electrical plant components at the highest level of skill in accordance with nuclear procedures.</p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong><u>Principle Accountabilities</u></strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Understand the theory, operation, and troubleshooting of plant equipment.</li>\n <li>Ensure efficient and reliable operation of station equipment through preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting activities on non-safety and safety-related plant equipment.</li>\n <li>Repair and overhaul plant electrical equipment.</li>\n <li>Investigate plant equipment failures/deficiencies with Engineering Department, Shop Supervisor, and vendors in order to correct problems and improve reliability of plant equipment.</li>\n <li>Perform Quality Control (QC) activities.</li>\n <li>Participate in and successfully complete the Maintenance Training Program as required.</li>\n <li>Continually improve the quality of electrical maintenance procedures through the established feedback and revision processes.</li>\n <li>Assist training as a SME in reviewing and preparing training materials and mock-ups.
