Description
Run a remote wilderness lodge* Live on a lake* All systems in your hands*
Property & Systems Lead
📍 Blachford Lake Lodge, Northwest Territories
🛩 Fly-in remote lodge
🔁 Year-round, rotational schedule
📊 Reports to: Director of Operations
About Blachford Lodge by Arctic Kingdom
Blachford Lake Lodge is a premier fly-in wilderness lodge located on a pristine lake in the Northwest Territories, offering unforgettable year-round northern experiences under the aurora.
Operating in a remote environment means everything matters — power, heat, water, and infrastructure systems must run safely and reliably to support both guests and staff.
We are a small, hands-on team that values accountability, problem-solving, and people who take pride in keeping things running well.
The Opportunity
This is not a typical maintenance role. As the Property & Systems Lead , you are responsible for the day-to-day operation and reliability of all core lodge systems — including power, heating, fuel, water, and wastewater.
You’ll take ownership of these systems while working alongside leadership and external contractors for larger or specialized projects.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, takes pride in their work, and is looking for a meaningful role in a unique northern setting.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Utilities
Oversee generators, heating systems (boilers, Toyo stoves, pellet systems), and fuel systems
Monitor diesel, propane, and fuel usage
Operate and maintain water, filtration, and wastewater systems
Track system performance and escalate risks early
Preventative Maintenance & Repairs
Build and execute preventative maintenance schedules
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and infrastructure systems
Coordinate complex repairs with contractors as needed
Property & Grounds
Maintain buildings, mechanical spaces, and infrastructure areas
Support safe site access, snow removal, and airstrip/helipad readiness
Team Leadership
Supervise and support maintenance staff
Provide hands-on training and mentorship
Support consistent coverage and safe work practices
Documentation & Systems Continuity
Develop SOPs and system documentation
Maintain logs and compliance records
Support knowledge sharing to reduce single-point-of-failure risk
Safety & Compliance
Uphold strong safety practices and OHS standards
Support land and water permit compliance
What You Bring
Strong mechanical and systems knowledge (generators, heating systems, fuel systems)
Experience working in remote, camp, or northern environments
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
Experience leading or mentoring others
Organized, reliable, and calm under pressure
Nice to have:
Trade certification or equivalent hands-on experience
Experience with water and wastewater systems
Compensation & Lifestyle
Salary up to $95,000 , based on experience
End-of-season bonus eligibility based on performance and operational success
Room and board provided while on site (significant cost savings)
Travel to and from the lodge covered
Year-round rotational schedule supporting work-life balance
Opportunity to live and work in a unique northern environment
Working Conditions & Schedule
Year-round, lodge-based role with a rotational schedule
Extended time on-site during rotation, followed by scheduled time off
Work includes indoor mechanical spaces and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions
What Makes This Role Unique
You are responsible for keeping an entire remote lodge operational
Your work has immediate, visible impact every day
You’ll work in one of the most unique environments in Canada
You’ll be part of a tight-knit, supportive team
Who This Role Is For
This role is a great fit for someone who:
Wants ownership without the bureaucracy of large camp operations
Enjoys remote work and being part of a capable, close-knit team
Takes pride in keeping systems running safely and reliably
Is looking for meaningful, hands-on work with real impact
Apply
We welcome candidates who are excited by northern operations, remote leadership, and building systems that support long-term success.
