SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If selected, Paramedic / Firefighter trainee candidates must provide at the time of offer acceptance, a current valid CPAT certification issued by the National Testing Network (NTN) or another licensed CPAT provider. CPAT certification must be completed within the past twelve (12) months of offer acceptance date. (CERTIFIED PARAMEDICS ARE EXEMPT FROM THE WRITTEN TESTING COMPONENT) Lake Havasu City Fire Department has partnered with the National Testing Network (NTN) to administer the written exam and Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). You must schedule your written exam and (CPAT) with the National Testing Network (NTN) directly by visiting their website at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com. Candidates may schedule testing at any of the testing facilities; however, testing must be completed before being considered for testing. Lake Havasu City must be a chosen department to view your test scores as outlined on the National Testing Network website. Testing with the National Testing Network must have been completed within the last twelve (12) months with an overall score of 70% or better. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent must be at least 18 years old. High School Diploma or GED equivalency and certification requirements as listed above. JOB DESCRIPTION: Working under the supervision of the Captain or higher-ranking fire personnel, the incumbent performs duties to prevent and extinguish fires, protect lives and properties, maintain firefighting equipment, respond to other emergencies, and keep equipment and personnel in a state of readiness for such emergencies. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment, independence, and initiative and perform according to the Fire Department and City safety rules, operating policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required and are subject to change as needs and job requirements change. Position assignments may vary. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Responds to emergency medical incidents; analyzes patient needs and establish priorities for treatment; administers lifesaving procedures immediately. Respond to fire alarms, rescue calls, and other emergency incidents; perform the full range of fire suppression duties including laying and connecting hose; maintaining fire apparatus; directing water and chemical streams to suppress fire; raising and climbing ladders; ventilating burning structures; and entering buildings to evacuate occupants. Provide Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support treatment as required by standing protocol or E.R. orders; may administer EKG monitoring, IV fluids, defibrillation, intubation, extrication, bleeding control, oxygen, splinting, and other treatment as required. Performs general maintenance and repair duties including but not limited to: cleaning and maintaining the facility and grounds, testing and performing maintenance and minor repairs on firefighting apparatus and equipment. Participates in training classes in order to enhance firefighting, first aid, and emergency response techniques. Respond to a variety of general emergency rescue calls including auto accidents, gas system leaks, and trapped or injured persons. Generate reports, charts, and documentation on all emergency and non-emergency responses. Checking and inspecting equipment and ensures proper functionality daily, weekly, monthly, and annually, when assigned. Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid Driver License. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY: Thorough knowledge of the modern principles and techniques of emergency medical services and fire suppression operations; general knowledge of City geography (i.e. streets; hydrants, buildings locations, etc.); general knowledge of City Fire Department rules and regulations and policies and procedures; general knowledge of fire suppression and theories, methods, and procedures; general knowledge of fire tactics and strategies, ventilation procedures, salvage and overhaul procedures, rescue and extrication procedures, fire causes and hazards, fire pump operations and hydraulics, hazardous materials, and radio communication procedures; general knowledge of water supply and hydrant locations; general knowledge of building and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes. Skill in using firefighting equipment, tools, vehicles, EMS equipment, and communications equipment; skill life support techniques including CPR, patient assessment, and treatment techniques; skill in fire and EMS report writing procedures; skill in emergency situations and conditions. Ability to analyze problems quickly and take appropriate action under stress; ability to perform basic mathematical functions; ability to deliver lectures, talks, and demonstrations to the public; ability to prepare routine reports; ability to receive and follow directions; ability to attend in-service trainings as provided by the department and attend other training as necessary to maintain fire and CEP certifications; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, other departments, other governmental and regulatory agencies, community organizations, and the general public. WORKING CONDITIONS: This work requires the occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with Applicants for employment opportunities should be aware of the Lake Havasu City policies concerning the use of drugs and alcohol. The succeeding examination processes may be required: training and experience, testing, panel interview, employment eligibility verification (EEV) requirements, personnel evaluation profile (PEP), polygraph test, background investigation and alcohol/drug screening test. Candidates may schedule testing at any of the testing facilities; however, testing must be completed before being considered for testing. Lake Havasu City must be a chosen department to view your test scores as outlined on the National Testing Network website. Testing with the National Testing Network must have been completed within the last twelve (12) months with an overall score of 70% or better.</strong></p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\n<p><br/>The incumbent must be at least 18 years old.<br/>High School Diploma or GED equivalency and certification requirements as listed above.</p>\n<p><strong>JOB DESCRIPTION:</strong></p>\n<p>Working under the supervision of the Captain or higher-ranking fire personnel, the incumbent performs duties to prevent and extinguish fires, protect lives and properties, maintain firefighting equipment, respond to other emergencies, and keep equipment and personnel in a state of readiness for such emergencies. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment, independence, and initiative and perform according to the Fire Department and City safety rules, operating policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.</p>\n<p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</strong></p>\n<p><i>The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required and are subject to change as needs and job requirements change. Position assignments may vary. maintaining fire apparatus; directing water and chemical streams to suppress fire; raising and climbing ladders; ventilating burning structures; and entering buildings to evacuate occupants.</p>\n<p>Provide Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support treatment as required by standing protocol or E.R. orders; may administer EKG monitoring, IV fluids, defibrillation, intubation, extrication, bleeding control, oxygen, splinting, and other treatment as required.</p>\n<p>Performs general maintenance and repair duties including but not limited to: cleaning and maintaining the facility and grounds, testing and performing maintenance and minor repairs on firefighting apparatus and equipment.</p>\n<p>Participates in training classes in order to enhance firefighting, first aid, and emergency response techniques.</p>\n<p>Respond to a variety of general emergency rescue calls including auto accidents, gas system leaks, and trapped or injured persons.</p>\n<p>Generate reports, charts, and documentation on all emergency and non-emergency responses.</p>\n<p>Checking and inspecting equipment and ensures proper functionality daily, weekly, monthly, and annually, when assigned.</p>\n<p>Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid&nbsp; &nbsp;Driver License.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:</strong></p>\n<p>Thorough knowledge of the modern principles and techniques of emergency medical services and fire suppression operations; general knowledge of City geography (i.e. streets; hydrants, buildings locations, etc.); general knowledge of City Fire Department rules and regulations and policies and procedures; general knowledge of fire suppression and theories, methods, and procedures; general knowledge of fire tactics and strategies, ventilation procedures, salvage and overhaul procedures, rescue and extrication procedures, fire causes and hazards, fire pump operations and hydraulics, hazardous materials, and radio communication procedures; general knowledge of water supply and hydrant locations; general knowledge of building and National Fire &nbsp;Protection Association (NFPA) codes.</p>\n<p>Skill in using firefighting equipment, tools, vehicles, EMS equipment, and communications equipment; skill life support techniques including CPR, patient assessment, and treatment techniques; skill in fire and EMS report writing procedures; skill in emergency situations and conditions.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Ability to analyze problems quickly and take appropriate action under stress; ability to perform basic mathematical functions; ability to deliver lectures, talks, and demonstrations to the public; ability to prepare routine reports; ability to receive and follow directions; ability to attend in-service trainings as provided by the department and attend other training as necessary to maintain fire and CEP certifications; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, other departments, other governmental and regulatory agencies, &nbsp;community organizations, and the general public.</p>\n<p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:</strong></p>\n<p>This work requires the occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires tasting or smelling;
