We are undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals.</i></p><p>&nbsp;<i>The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color.</i></p><p><strong>WHO WE WANT:</strong></p><p>&nbsp;Successful SCSD educators are passionately committed to urban education and all in for Syracuse students. They:</p><ul><li>Believe strongly that all students can learn at high levels;</li><li>Demonstrate commitment to serving urban students, schools or communities, and to closing the achievement gap;</li><li>Demonstrate willingness to put the interests of students above all others;</li><li>Actively contribute to a culture of high expectations in their school and district; and</li><li>Adapt seamlessly to the complexities of the urban school environment.</li></ul><p><strong>POSITION BEING HIRED:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul><li>Marching Band - Woodwinds Instructor</li></ul><p>We offer 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12. Our coaching staff consists of certified, dedicated people who enjoy working with our student athletes. They are individuals who work very hard and care a great deal about the individuals for which they are responsible. In grades 7-8 we offer a comprehensive modified program, which serve as a \"training ground\" for skill development and participation. Winning is NOT emphasized and large numbers on teams are encouraged for maximum participation. We stress discipline, enjoyment or play, competition, and dedication to the value that hard work will produce rewards. The modified program prepares our young student athletes for the higher level of high school competition.</p><p>To participate at the high school level, a higher refinement of skill is necessary and competition is viewed at a higher level of comprehension. Our high school freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams strive for success and practice to produce as efficient a team and individual effort as possible. At the high school level, we stress the development of academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>POSITION PURPOSE:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Under the supervision of the Director, the Woodwind Instructor is responsible for the planning and instruction of the marching band’s woodwind students. This is considered an extracurricular contract.</p><p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</strong></p><ul><li>Assist in the instructional delivery of the woodwind section of the band.</li><li>Instruct students on their woodwind instrument, at their level, and ensure each student’s progress by providing as much individualization as possible.</li><li>Engage students to practice, play and perform introduced materials.</li><li>Assist try-outs for drum majors and seating woodwind musicians.&nbsp;</li><li>Assist in preparing the woodwind section for appropriate public performances in keeping with the expectations of the Director.</li><li>Attend all rehearsals, sectionals and performances actively participating in assisting students in sectionals and whole group rehearsals.</li><li>Assist in teaching drill for the show and checking the positioning of the woodwinds in each musical selection.</li><li>Monitor and control student behavior according to established procedures and share any concerns, etc. with the Director.&nbsp;</li></ul><p><strong>SALARY:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Salary per <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https://www.syracusecityschools.com/tfiles/folder11065/Unit 1 Collective Bargaining Agreement 2024-2025-FINAL Fully Executed.pdf\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Unit 1 contract</a></a>, <i>prorated per length of season.</i></p>",
