Description

Position Description Title: Translational Scientist Location: Neutralizing Antibody Center, Scripps Research, La Jolla, CA Position Summary: IAVI is seeking a dedicated Translational Scientist who will work closely with the SPR group to perform biochemistry lab techniques in the Neutralizing Antibody Center (NAC) lab. This position will be responsible for collaborating with other lab members to study HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies and the design of immunogens to elicit these antibodies through vaccination. This position will be based at the California campus of Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA, which offers access to broad range of research conducted on site, interaction with renowned scientists, seminar series, society of fellows and exposure to a scientific environment with state of the art equipment . Key Responsibilities: Perform biochemistry laboratory techniques to prepare samples and conduct experiments utilizing SPR and other biosensor-based instruments. Perform protein biochemistry and flow cytometry techniques to assess protein quality and stability in support of clinical trials. Work closely with the SPR group lead to establish priorities, develop protocols, verify results and further develop automation capabilities. Organize samples for parallel processing on multiple automated biosensor instruments, as well as maintain accurate records of sample amounts in the laboratory inventory database. Collaborate closely with other lab members to maximize instrument throughput. Utilize software programs (i.e., Microsoft Excel or Google Docs) and R-scripts to develop, optimize, and implement automated assays. Prepare reports documenting protein quality and stability for clinical trial reagents. Prepare reports that improve capabilities, efficiency, and productivity. Responsible for instrument maintenance, data quality control and ordering supplies, as necessary. Perform other tasks as assigned by manager. Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field is required. Minimum 2 years of lab experience in protein biochemistry techniques is required; experience in SPR, Octet, high throughput or automated liquid handling, analytical assays, and/or protein and antibody purification and characterization is highly desirable. Qualifications and Skills: Excellent track record of performing biochemistry laboratory techniques and preparing samples and conduct experiments is required, Thorough knowledge and experience utilizing SPR and other biosensor-based instruments are required. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment is required. Ability to prioritize and organize a daily workload is required. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a team member is required. Ability to troubleshoot and address technical hurdles is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required. Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills is required.
