Our focused, interdisciplinary care of children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease brings to bear the expertise of board-certified pediatric cardiologists, congenital cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac intensivists, anesthesiologists, and advanced practice pediatric critical care nurses. Our facilities include a new state-of-the-art Cardiac Intensive Care unit in 2021 and the most advanced technology available for diagnosis, treatment, and translational research for our patients, who range in age from fetal to young adult.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>The Acute Care Cardiology Unit (ACCU) is the inpatient cardiology </strong><strong>service</strong><strong>. The Acute Care Cardiology APNs provide 24/7 coverage to all high acuity cardiac patients which includes but is not limited to, single ventricle patients, transplant patients, post-operative and post- cardiac catheterization patients. The APRN </strong><strong>would participate in </strong><strong>patient</strong><strong> </strong><strong>care</strong><strong> rounds (with </strong><strong>direct</strong><strong> </strong><strong>patient</strong><strong> </strong><strong>management</strong><strong>), order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, analyze and prioritize </strong><strong>complex</strong><strong> data, </strong><strong>develop</strong><strong> differential diagnoses, and implement plans of </strong><strong>care</strong><strong>. The APRN would be </strong><strong>responsible</strong><strong> for daily progress notes as well as </strong><strong>family</strong><strong> education. The APRN is a resource for residency staff and a </strong><strong>collaborator</strong><strong> with the multiple cardiac sub-specialties. The APRN would also work with the CV surgeons on post-operative </strong><strong>care</strong><strong>, including but not limited to incisional </strong><strong>management</strong><strong>, removal of chest tubes and pacer wires, and wound vac therapy.</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>The APRN will also cross train and help support all inpatient cardiology units -CICU and consult roles as well. </strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Advanced Practice Registered Nurses II (APRN-II) provides proficient, comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. An APRN II obtains a comprehensive health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care and treatment; prescribes/performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures; and participates in patient and family education. Each APRN-II demonstrates professional leadership and participates in evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and/or research activities, and organizational development.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>At Children’s Mercy, we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcomed within our walls. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.</em></p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>- Clinical Practice: proficiently provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing care based on the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. - Professional Leadership: advances the practice of nursing by inspiring others to positively impact the care of children and families in our community. - Evidenced-based Practice/QI/Research Inquiry: improves patient/family outcomes by utilizing evidence to translate science to practice. - Organizational Development: influences organizational policy in order to achieve and sustain practice improvements and strategic initiatives.\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Master's Degree and 1-2 years pediatric experience, required; DNP preferred for APRNs but not required</li>\n <li>APRNs must have RN compact license in their primary residency state or if they do not reside in a compact state both MO and KS single state RN license</li>\n <li>APRNs must have MO and KS APRN licensure.</li>\n <li>PA’s must have MO and KS PA licensure</li>\n <li>National Board Certification required for state licensure</li>\n <li>APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire</li>\n <li>Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>EEO Employer/Disabled/Vet</h2>\n<p>Children’s Mercy hires individuals based on their job skills, expertise and ability to maintain professional relationships with fellow employees, patients, parents and visitors.
