    "jobDescription": "<p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Job Posting End Date</b></p>06-10-2026<p style=\"text-align:left\">Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end date</p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Job Summary </b></p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p>Under the direction of Distribution System Supervisor (DSS), assist and learn to perform work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical distribution facilities. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities.<p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Job Description</b></p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p><p></p><p>Learn and apply all AEP, Operating Company, and Site-Specific Safety rules to perform assigned duties. Participate in safety tailboard, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and safety meetings.</p><p></p><p>Observe and learn the assembly, installation, maintenance, removal and competently inspect underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead and underground facilities under direct or immediate supervision.</p><p></p><p>Climb poles and ladders and demonstrate evidence of being at ease above ground level during the performance of work tasks under immediate or direct supervision.</p><p></p><p>Demonstrate the ability to competently perform ground person duties under immediate or direct supervision.</p><p></p><p>Learn and assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing and removing poles. Assemble and install line material and hardware under direct or immediate supervision.</p><p></p><p>Use and store hand lines, tie knots and demonstrate a basic working knowledge with ropes and rigging equipment inspection and use.</p><p></p><p>Splice primary and secondary overhead wires using the proper tools, hardware and equipment (including crimping and compression tools).Learn to use, inspect and maintain tools and equipment applicable to work duties. </p><p></p><p>Identify, inspect, use and maintain all classes of rubber gloves and sleeves (PIPE), and insulating blankets, hoses and covers (IPE).Inspect, maintain, organize, operate and stock company vehicles, equipment and tools. Perform housekeeping duties as assigned. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions. Protect or control work area.</p><p></p><p>Set and remove barricades, flags, signs, cones and associated equipment.</p><p></p><p>Correctly read and record information and registered readings on analog or digital Kilowatt-hour meters. Learn and comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices.</p><p></p><p>Learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines. Effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, internal and external customers. </p><p></p><p>Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors, and others. Read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications. Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.</p><p></p><p>May work energized conductors up to 260 volts under direct supervision progressing to an immediate level of supervision based on determined skill level.</p><p></p><p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p><p></p><p>Education requirements: High school diploma or GED. Enrolled in a power line related one year or greater certificate program, which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship, or a power line related associated degree program which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship.<br />This job requires &#34;recommended&#34; test results from HireVue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout.  This assessment is completed online, is untimed, and typically takes about 45 minutes to complete. Please refer to the Employment Test Prep section of our website  https://www.aep.com/careers/testprep/ </p><p></p><p>License(s)/Certification(s) Requirements:</p><p>Must possess and maintain a valid state driver&#39;s license.</p><p>Must possess a CDL permit.</p><p>Must be eligible to acquire and maintain a CDL-A driver&#39;s license.</p><p></p><p>OTHER REQUIREMENTS:</p><p></p><p>Through a combination of education and experience candidate must have sufficient knowledge and skill to perform the job duties and functions listed in Principal Accountabilities above.</p><p></p><p>Possess a polite and accommodating attitude.</p><p></p><p>Must have ability to work with public, respond to questions, and provide instruction. Must be proficient in computer skills and use of Microsoft products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.</p><p></p><p>Must have strong oral and written communication skills.</p><p></p><p>Must have a basic knowledge/understanding of the production, transmission and distribution of electricity.</p><p></p><p>Must have a continuous improvement mindset Previous experience working in a public setting preferred. Possess a neat appearance. Interns work the same work schedule and shifts as the crew they are assigned.  They may be required to work overtime and call-outs.   </p><p></p><p>This role requires regular overtime and on-call response.
