Role Description: The Corporate Environmental Program Manager has a demonstrated competence and knowledge across almost all environmental regulatory areas – air, water, chemical reporting, remediation, and waste. This role provides leadership and direct support to ensure the company’s and site’s environmental programs effectively address compliance obligations and risks. The role develops and works from a comprehensive plan, achieving results through relationships, building and establishing programs, providing technical support, assessing progress through metrics, while driving accountability and a sense of urgency throughout the organization. Must be able to communicate complicated technical issues to all layers of the organization. Role requires up to 50% travel time.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop, improve and oversee the LSB Environmental program. Assist in the development of a multi-year plan to systematically improve across LSB including setting standards, developing procedures, metrics, training materials and a self-assessment program.
Achieve a detailed understanding of Environmental risks and controls at each facility including program health and compliance status. Use this understanding to build and adjust plans and goals.
Be the subject matter expert for company Environmental matters through emerging issues tracking, analysis and strategy building.
Establish, maintain and utilize industry leading set of metrics to illustrate the state of the program, risk and progress . Ensuring visibility to drive Environmental short and long-term strategy and performance.
Set company Environmental program processes and execution through the company’s published Risk Management Standards and Policy.
Work collaboratively with the site and corporate capital and engineering capabilities on project support to ensure proper environmental permitting and compliance.
Support site permitting and reporting requirements through hands on permit application building, analysis (PSD, NNSR, TVOP) and agency negotiations.
Support company due-diligence efforts on mergers and acquisitions, identifying opportunities and risk in the environmental and compliance areas.
Work collaboratively with Environmental resources and the Corporate EHS Systems Analyst regarding Environmental programs related to compliance and risk reduction.
Oversee the company Environmental Audit program, ensuring quality auditing resources, reporting, corrective action design and approval and closure tracking. Ensure site conformance to LSB Standards through self-assessments and audits. Conduct periodic system self-assessments and support Environmental audits to ensure sites are prepared to demonstrate a robust and compliant program to management and regulatory inspectors.
Become the focal point of EHS data for others that require EHS data for metrics, such as ESG reporting, Board of Directors’ presentations, EVP of Manufacturing report outs, etc.
Develop Environmental Training content and work with the Corporate EHS Systems Analyst to ensure training is assigned and executed.
Coordinate with site Environmental Leads on EPA RMP program elements ensuring adequate controls for worse case and alternative case controls and emergency response.
Provide Environmental input to enhance the quality of operating procedures as requested.
Represent the company at professional conferences and with the fertilizer industry’s trade association, The Fertilizer Institute, EHS meetings
Qualifications
Experience and Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, chemistry, or related field.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in chemical or petrochemical, manufacturing, or related field.
Hands-on environmental reporting, data gathering, building permit applications, emissions inventories and regulatory required plans.
In-depth environmental regulatory experience and knowledge is required.
Good computer skills, MS Office, and database exposure .
Able to organize and express ideas clearly and effectively in groups and written documents.
Experience Preferred:
Experience with state regulatory agencies in Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Texas
Experience with US DOT and FRA regulations and practices in order to support company logistics and emergency response.
Physical Requirements:
Able to climb at least 3 flights of stairs without a break. Able to routinely push, pull, carry, and lift twenty-five (25) pounds. Ability to respond in high stress situations (such as unplanned plant shutdowns or evacuations) without physical impairment.
