We design and operate scalable pipelines for onboarding massive datasets from customers and partners, while developing and optimizing geospatial processing services that transform raw map inputs into high-quality, production-ready products. Our work spans innovation in AI, big data, and algorithmic evolution to advance how maps are processed, validated, and enriched, supporting both large-scale customer programs with premium automotive brands and multi-industry partners, as well as internal transformation initiatives.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>\n<p>HERE Technologies is looking for an experienced <strong>Lead Software Engineer</strong> to join our highly motivated Mapmaking team in Germany. The Mapmaking team builds and operates core technologies and services for onboarding, processing, and quality assuring digital map data.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>You will focus on designing and developing high-scale geospatial processing systems, building cloud-native services, and evolving backend data pipelines that support map content creation and validation.</p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and data processing pipelines for map content and geospatial data.</p></li>\n <li><p>Contribute to and review architectural designs for distributed systems and cloud services.</p></li>\n <li><p>Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and architects to define technical solutions.</p></li>\n <li><p>Mentor junior engineers and support technical best practices across the team.</p></li>\n <li><p>Drive operational excellence by contributing to <strong>CI/CD</strong> pipelines, monitoring, and automated testing.</p></li>\n <li><p>Ensure high software quality standards and reliability in production environments.</p></li>\n <li><p>Investigate and adopt emerging technologies in geospatial processing, cloud infrastructure, and big data frameworks.</p></li>\n <li><p>Work closely with colleagues in Europe and around the globe.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Tech Stack:</strong> Java, Scala, Python, SQL, AWS, Docker, GitLab, Spark, Kafka, and GeoJSON.<strong>NOTE: This is an individual contributor (IC) position.</strong></p>\n<h2>Who are you?</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geo-Informatics, or a related field.</p></li>\n <li>8+ years of experience in backend and/or service application development (<strong>Java, or Scala)</strong></li>\n <li><p>Strong knowledge of software architecture, design, and code review.</p></li>\n <li>Expertise with <strong>DBMS</strong>, preferably <strong>PostgreSQL or Oracle.</strong></li>\n <li><p>Experience building high-throughput, low-latency, and highly reliable systems at scale.</p></li>\n <li><p>Familiarity with <strong>HTTP, REST, JSON, and microservices architectures</strong>.</p></li>\n <li><p>Hands-on experience with <strong>AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud environments</strong>.</p></li>\n <li><p>Experience with <strong>Docker, Kubernetes</strong>, and container orchestration.</p></li>\n <li><p>Strong background in <strong>DevOps practices</strong> and <strong>CI/CD</strong>, with tools such as <strong>JIRA, Git, and GitLab.</strong></p></li>\n <li>Experience with high availability <strong>NoSQL</strong> databases, <strong>Big Data</strong> processing Frameworks,<strong> Spark, Flink, and Kafka.</strong></li>\n <li>Knowledge of <strong>geospatial data handling, frameworks, libraries (JTS, Apache Sedona), </strong>and <strong>GeoJSON</strong>.</li>\n <li>Excellent communication skills in <strong>English</strong>, both written and spoken.</li>\n</ul>\n<h3>Nice-to-Have Skills</h3>\n<ul>\n <li>Engagement in <strong>industry forums or open-source geospatial communities</strong>.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>What Do We Offer?</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>A great work-life balance</li>\n <li>30 paid vacation days</li>\n <li>Hybrid model of work (2 days office and 3 days home office per week)</li>\n <li>Work on the development of high-scale services, serving and storing petabytes of data</li>\n <li>Work with cutting-edge, modern technologies</li>\n <li>Flexible working hours</li>\n <li>Competitive salary plus bonus</li>\n <li>German language course (<em>For Germany-based employees</em>)</li>\n <li>Employee wellness programs and life-coaching sessions </li>\n <li>A diverse team of fantastic & talented people from 60+ countries worldwide.</li>\n <li>Brown bag talks, team events, and more!</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Change is HERE.
