The Optician advises patients on the styles and characteristics of eyewear to best suit their needs.<br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</span></span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<ol>\n<li>Prescreens patients for color blindness, stereo and visual acuity and complete neutralization of current eyewear before they see the doctor.</li>\n<li>Interprets patient prescriptions for eyeglasses, contacts or other optical services.</li>\n<li>Educates patients on products and options available.</li>\n<li>Educates and trains an apprentice optician.</li>\n<li>Performs diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, lensometry, tonometry, color vision and depth perception.</li>\n<li>Accurately takes measurements of facial features, multi-focal heights and papillary distances and any other measurements needed to produce high quality eyeglasses or contact lenses for each patient.</li>\n<li>Orders all products/materials needed accurately and efficiently. Verifies all orders on arrival.</li>\n<li>Adjusts and fits frames that suit the patient’s style, face and specifications.</li>\n<li>Uses specialized equipment such as calipers, lensometers and lens gauges.</li>\n<li>Inventories frames and contact lenses.</li>\n<li>Repairs broken frames.</li>\n<li>Educates patients on how to wear and maintain glasses and contact lenses.</li>\n<li>Performs administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, EHR records and insurance.</li>\n<li>Notifies patients of completion of service in a timely fashion.</li>\n<li>Maintains patient records according to HIPAA guidelines.</li>\n<li>Must maintain all licensures and certifications of the position.</li>\n<li>Participates and cooperates in the re-credentialing process with the Contracting and Credentialing Coordinator.</li>\n<li>Upholds and promotes the value and integrity of the Seneca Nation Health System’s mission statement. Will promote SNHS in a positive manner.</li>\n<li>Provides care through a trauma-informed lens by incorporating key principles of both physical and psychological environment safety, trustworthiness and transparency, collaboration of decision-making during treatment plan developments, empowerment of patients by recognizing and building upon individual strengths, as well as recognizing and respecting the diversity of cultural backgrounds and sensitivity.</li>\n<li>Participates and completes all mandatory staff meetings, trainings and in-services.</li>\n<li>Follows all policies and procedures of the department, Seneca Nation, and SNHS.</li>\n</ol>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, &amp; ABILITIES:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.</li>\n<li>Must have ability to operate specialized optical equipment.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">QUALIFICATIONS:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current license as an Ophthalmic Dispenser in New York State required with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an optician or ophthalmic dispenser.</li>\n<li>ABO/NCLE certification is preferred.</li>\n<li>Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.</li>\n</ul>",
