Reports To: Plant Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
ROLE
SUMMARY
As the plant’s sanitation leader, the Sanitation Manager is responsible for strategic direction, execution and continuous improvement within the assigned facility. This role ensures the sanitation program is in compliance according to Ready-To-Eat standards, SQF, USDA, FDA, CFIA standards while driving a proactive sanitation and food safety culture. The incumbent holds end-to-end accountability for sanitation performance to include environmental monitoring, third-party services and sanitation compliance site wide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Lead, manage, coach, and provide direction to plant or 3 rd party sanitation team that promotes a culture of engagement, high performance, and career development. Partner closely with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance leadership to ensure the production of safe, and high-quality food products that meet/exceed customer and regulatory requirements. Direct ownership of sanitation program, master sanitation schedule and KPI’s. Implement and oversee training for shift associates that align with company standards, safety requirements and other regulatory requirements. Drive engagement, accountability, and a strong safety and food culture sitewide. Oversee equipment assembly in adherence with specific SOPs and Plant procedures, resulting in timely preparation of the facility for a visual Sanitation Pre-Operational inspection. Responsible for ensuring associate adherence of safety standards, OSHA requirements and SKFG policies and procedures. Ensure effective onboarding and ongoing training in sanitation, GMPs, food safety, and chemical safety. Manage and adherence to Sanitation budget. Provide oversight of 3 rd party sanitation contractors (where applicable), chemical company and other vendors as applicable to the site. Evaluate vendor performance and leverage their technical expertise to achieve plant sanitation goals. Drive a preventive, risk-based sanitation culture focused on eliminating contamination risks. Serve as key contributor to ensure site readiness for regulatory inspections and customer audits. Lead root cause investigations and CAPA for microbiological, chemical and physical hazards to ensure food safety compliance. Act as primary Sanitation lead during food safety incidents and crisis response. Drives continuous improvement of the program. Other duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises third shift SK Food Group Sanitation associates and oversees contractor sanitation execution (where applicable).
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or eight years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Chemical Hygiene/Safety preferred. Experience in Food Manufacturing, specifically Ready-To-Eat environments, is required. Experience in a USDA facility required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
HACCP certification and/or PCQI certification, Sanitation certification(s) completed with 3 rd party provider.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of chemical use, including safety and disposal required. Knowledge of environmental monitoring and pathogen control. Basic math skills required. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area and volume. Technical writing skills required. Must be able to think logically, problem solve and troubleshoot. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Must possess strong time management, people management, communication and organization skills. Must be a team player, able to coach and able to develop associates. Must possess an understanding of how equipment works and its design.

REQUIRED TRAINING
This position requires training on Good Manufacturing Practices critical to the effective implementation of the Food Safety Plan and the maintenance of food safety, quality and process efficiency. Training is also required on how to identify food safety issues such as temperature control, cross-contamination, sanitation and cleanliness of the lines, etc., critical to the effective implementation of the Food Safety Plan and the maintenance of food safety, quality and process efficiency.
