We are seeking an Assistant Village Engineer to join the Municipal Division team and be a part of our growing team located in Vernon Hills, IL. This is an exempt position with straight overtime pay. The Assistant Village Engineer will report to the Division Director or Assistant Division Director.</p><p>The Assistant Village Engineer will be responsible for assisting our Village Engineers in the management responsibility of our Municipal Engineering Clients. &nbsp;The ideal applicant will have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering. This includes applicable laws, and regulatory codes relevant to the assigned area of responsibility, prepare understand and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents. The Assistant Village Engineer should have excellent customer service skills, strong written and oral communication skills, experience effectively multi-tasking, strong analytical abilities, good time-management skills and the ability to address engineering matters at varying levels of complexity. The applicant must have prior experience working in a village/city engineering department with varying levels of responsibility.</p><p>As a professional engineer, you will utilize the company values in all phases of your work. You shall demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, be a self-starter, be able to carry out assignments with limited oversight in a timely manner, and show competency in the following areas:</p><p><strong>How you will make an impact:</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\" id=\"isPasted\"><li>Provide staff support to a variety of boards and commissions including the presenting of projects and programs at public meetings; attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of engineering.</li><li>Oversee and review the plans of consulting engineers and private contractors; recommend adjustments of engineering designs; ensure compliance with specifications; and applicable Village codes, State and Federal requirements.</li><li>Coordinate assigned activities with consultants, engineers, developers, contractors, other Village departments and divisions, outside agencies, and the general public; provide consultation and advice on construction projects.</li><li>Prepare progress reports on projects under construction; maintain records of changes and field notes.</li><li>Conduct various engineering studies and prepare reports.</li><li>Effectively interact with the citizens of municipal clients in responding to requests for services and enforcement of Village ordinances, when required.</li><li>Act as the Village Engineer as necessary.</li><li>Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.</li></ul><p><strong>What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc</strong></p><p><strong>Education:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\" id=\"isPasted\"><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in civil engineering or related field.</li><li>Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or obtain it within 6 months of hire.</li></ul><p><strong>Experience:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\" id=\"isPasted\"><li>Have at least 4 years of civil engineering experience and 2 years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.&nbsp;</li><li>Have a valid Illinois Driver&rsquo;s License.</li><li>Experience with Microstation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D</li><li>Must be able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal skills.</li><li>Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.</li></ul><p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\" id=\"isPasted\"><li>Independently identify, evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering criteria and standards across engineering disciplines.</li><li>Manage project schedules and train engineers and/or technicians on projects.</li><li>Self-starting, detail-oriented individual with organizational and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Visit project sites to troubleshoot complex construction issues and be able to effectively communicate desired outcomes.</li><li>Complete engineering tasks with limited oversight and seek feedback at appropriate periods of work under the supervision and mentoring of project managers.</li><li>Work in a team setting with other team members within all divisions of the company.</li><li>Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines.</li><li>Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in-house systems/management training.</li></ul><p><strong>ADA SPECIFICATIONS<br>&nbsp;</strong>The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job.
