Description Applied Physics is seeking a Data Scientist experienced with a diverse array of data types to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team of independent and entrepreneurial computer scientists and engineers. In this role, you will collaborate with scientists and researchers in various areas, including data analysis, compression, text processing, graph analysis, machine learning, information visualization, as well as others. Responsibilities: Collaborate with scientists and researchers in various areas to develop state of the art algorithms, software, and computer systems solutions to challenging problems. Assess the requirements for data science research from Applied Physics and the Advanced Propulsion Laboratory. Engage with other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations, working to fulfill deliverables as a team. Design technical solutions independently, participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team to analyze client requirements and designs, and implementing software and performing analyses to address these needs. Develop and integrate components for creating an operational information and knowledge discovery system. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience. Comprehensive knowledge of one or more of the following: high performance computing, scientific data analysis, statistical analysis, computer security, systems programming, and/or large scale data management. Skilled in all phases of software development, including but not limited to feasibility requirements, design, implementation, integration, testing, and deployment. Experience developing software with C++, C, Java, Python, R, or Matlab, software applications in Linux, UNIX, Windows environments, data analysis algorithms, data management approaches, relational databases, or machine learning algorithms. Ability to successfully handle multiple time sensitive projects across several disciplines. Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
