This role provides person-centered support to individuals in their homes and community, promoting independence, inclusion, and skill development</p><p>Successful candidates will work in a person-centered environment, promoting independence, inclusion, and quality of life while gaining valuable experience in community living and support services.</p><h2><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h2><ul><li>Support individuals in their homes and within the community to increase independence and promote inclusion</li><li>Assist with the development of life skills, including grocery shopping, meal planning, budgeting, communication, transportation use, and accessing community services</li><li>Support individuals in setting and achieving goals outlined in their Person-Centered Plans</li><li>Encourage self-determination, self-advocacy, and personal growth to enhance quality of life</li><li>Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency or crisis situations (e.g., medical concerns, unsafe environments, emotional distress) in accordance with established protocols</li><li>Accompany and/or transport individuals to appointments, including medical and therapeutic services, while following health care plans</li><li>Facilitate participation in community programs, social activities, and out-of-town opportunities</li><li>Encourage the development of meaningful relationships with peers, community members, and support networks</li><li>Provide trauma-informed, person-centered support to individuals with complex needs, including mental health challenges, substance use, or high-risk behaviours</li><li>Assist individuals in exploring personal interests and participating in recreational, cultural, or spiritual activities that foster belonging</li><li>Connect individuals with community resources such as housing supports, employment services, training programs, and advocacy organizations</li><li>Communicate effectively with team members, professionals, and family members as directed</li><li>Maintain accurate, factual, and professional documentation, including daily notes and incident reports, in accordance with confidentiality standards</li><li>Support daily living activities such as cleaning, cooking, laundry, errands, pet care, and appointment organization</li><li>Assist with personal care needs where required, including hygiene, dressing, mobility support, and medication reminders</li><li>Administer medications and perform delegated medical tasks (e.g., gastrostomy care, glucose monitoring) in accordance with organizational policies</li><li>Promote safety and well-being in all environments, including during community outings and transportation</li><li>Follow all health and safety procedures, including emergency and incident response protocols</li><li>Work collaboratively with staff and supervisors to ensure continuity of care and effective service delivery</li></ul><h2><strong>Qualifications (CSJ Eligibility Requirements)</strong></h2><p>To be eligible under the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must:</p><ul><li>Be between <strong>19 and 30 years of age</strong> at the start of employment (students must be 19 due to internal funding policies)</li><li>Be a <strong>Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection status</strong></li><li>Be legally entitled to work in Canada</li></ul><p>Qualifications:</p><ul><li>Interest in community support, social services, or health care</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills</li><li>Ability to work both independently and as part of a team</li><li>Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle</li></ul><h2><strong>Skills Development Opportunities</strong></h2><p>Through this role, participants will gain:</p><ul><li>Hands-on experience in community living and support services</li><li>Communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills</li><li>Problem-solving and crisis response skills</li><li>Time management and organizational abilities</li><li>Experience working with person-centered planning approaches</li><li>Exposure to health and safety practices in care environments</li></ul><h2><strong>Supervision & Mentorship</strong></h2><p>Participants will receive structured onboarding, ongoing supervision, and regular feedback from experienced staff to support their professional development throughout the placement.</p><h2><strong>Working Conditions</strong></h2><ul><li>Work takes place in clients’ homes and community settings</li><li>Requires flexibility, professionalism, and adherence to safety protocols</li></ul>This candidate shall be considered a casual employee under the FSJACL's BCGEU collective agreement.
