We’re less concerned about titles and more concerned about how each person can be supported to make the greatest impact.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary:</strong></p>\n<p>This position reports to a Delivery Leader or Team Leader and is recognized as a technical specialist with an in-depth and advanced knowledge in a specific area(s) or discipline. Structural engineering position that designs, develops specifications, estimates and works with structural team members to complete projects in the public infrastructure and private industry markets across the country. Seals plans and specifications for projects. Team leader for structural design team preferred. This responsibility includes supervision of staff, development of team's skills and workload management for the projects and team member's schedules.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Focus Area: Bridge focused designed projects. Prefer DOT experience.  </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Veterans encouraged to apply. </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><strong>Essential Functions & Responsibilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Acts as a technical specialist in a particular engineering area or discipline.</li>\n <li>Provides internal technical advice to project managers throughout the company for the purpose of preparing proposals and developing client presentations.</li>\n <li>Collaborates with a project manager with project planning including development of the project scope, concepts and strategies to be used, task organization, estimates of effort the identification of other required resources, and schedules necessary to complete the project. Collaborates with the development of cost and budget estimates for the project.</li>\n <li>Provides technical guidance to the project manager in developing an agreement for engineering services, including scope, fee structure, fee amount, schedule, and all other risk sharing/management provisions related to the engineering manager’s portion of the project.</li>\n <li>Directs, manages and participates in the production of the project deliverables. Performs or participates in some or all of the following:</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Preliminary studies, plans and cost estimates</li>\n  <li>Definition of and oversight of design surveys</li>\n  <li>Designs and plan production</li>\n  <li>Conducting project status/review meetings</li>\n  <li>Specification and contract document development and production</li>\n  <li>Bidding and contract award and construction administration oversight</li>\n  <li>Monitors and maintains quality on all facets of the project deliverable</li>\n </ul>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Provides input to the project manager and/or others regarding the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges to projects.</li>\n <li>In coordination with the project manager, communicates openly and frequently with clients during the course of a project to ensure that all issues are addressed to the client’s satisfaction.</li>\n <li>Participates in on-going client maintenance activities, as appropriate.</li>\n <li><p>Reviews personal and project staff labor utilization relative to assigned project teams on a regular basis as directed.</p></li>\n <li>In coordination with the project manager, oversees and directs the assignments of engineers and technicians assigned to a project.</li>\n <li>Develops and fosters an open environment encouraging communication among team members assigned to a project. Provides constructive performance feedback to project team members and coaches to improve performance.</li>\n <li>Provides performance information on all project team members to the delivery leader, team leader, or project manager.</li>\n <li>Stays abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies and methods. Participates in professional organization(s) in the manager’s area of expertise and/or client focus. Maintains professional licensure in the states required by the company.</li>\n <li>Focused on project delivery, mentoring, and technical leadership.</li>\n <li>Will have a substantial role in developing and implementing scope/fee/schedule/quality plan for projects. Typically teamed up with PM II who is ultimately responsible for the projects.</li>\n <li>Mentors team members.</li>\n <li><p>May analyze a specific issue on PM’s project to recommend solutions that are efficient and cost effective.</p></li>\n <li>Meets with vendors of equipment on a technical basis with project managers and project teams as directed.</li>\n <li>May present at conferences and tradeshows as directed.</li>\n <li>May participate in the company’s standard specification process as directed.</li>\n <li>May serve as the people manager/HR supervisor for a team. </li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Effective communication skills (verbal and written)</li>\n <li>Excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading</li>\n <li>Effective problem solving and decision making skills</li>\n <li>Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain client and employee relationships</li>\n <li>Ability to lead, train, and mentor others</li>\n <li>Knowledge of highway design standards, DOT design policies and plan preparation criteria</li>\n <li>Practical Knowledge in use of Highway Capacity Manual, Roadside Design Guide, MUTCD, and AASHTO Standards</li>\n <li>Self-awareness: Knowing one’s strengths and limits with a strong sense of one’s self-worth and capabilities</li>\n <li>Self-regulation: Keeping emotions in check; trustworthy; taking responsibility for personal performance; flexibility; innovative</li>\n <li>Customer service orientation</li>\n <li>Political awareness: Reads a group’s emotional current and power relationships</li>\n <li>Collaborative</li>\n <li>Ability to negotiate</li>\n <li>Analytical and critical thinking skills</li>\n <li>Ability to achieve business results</li>\n <li>Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain appropriate amount of detail</li>\n <li>Demonstrates a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing and problem analysis and resolution</li>\n <li>Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook</li>\n <li>Proficiency in Microstation, Geopak/Inroads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D</li>\n <li>Proficiency in HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS or other stormwater design/analysis programs preferred</li>\n <li>Ability to embrace new technology and processes including learning other software programs as needed (Adobe, Bluebeam, Deltek Vision accounting and project planning software, Client Relationship Management software, etc.)</li>\n <li>Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership</li>\n <li>Good time management skills with ability to handle complex deadline driven workload</li>\n <li>Ability to work independently and within a team successfully</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Education:</strong><strong> </strong>Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field required.</p>\n<p>  </p>\n<p><strong>Experience:</strong></p>\n<p>8+ years engineering experience in transportation and P.E. licensure required.  Knowledge/experience of Microstation, Geopak/Inroads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D strongly preferred.  Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by the company as soon as possible.</p>\n<p><strong>                                   </strong></p>\n<p><strong>Travel Expectations:</strong></p>\n<p>Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other office locations, project sites, attending seminars or business meetings.  Minimum travel is 20% of the time depending on projects.  Certain positions will require more travel.  Travel expectations will be communicated through the employee-owner’s manager, and for newly open positions, travel expectations will be reflected in the job posting announcement.
