Overview
Responsible for managing daily referral activity, both through new and ongoing referrals; responsible for timely referral response, assessment, and evaluation of potential organ donors; collaborates with clinical, family and hospital resources to set-up optimal coverage of referrals; evaluates the need of each referral and engages appropriate Gift of Hope staff to effectively manage all referrals to a successful outcome; facilitates the gift of donation through the evaluation, authorization, medical management, and distribution of organs for transplantation or research from deceased organ donors
This role is well suited to an RN or other allied health professiional, particularly with experience in critical care.
This is a 12-hour night shift position that includes alternating weekends.
Compensation range for this position is $39.90 - $44.71 per hour.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
Responsible for triage of organ referrals, obtaining clinical information to determine medical suitability, providing clinical assessment to determine organ viability
Create case plan for organ referrals including further needs once onsite staff involved.
Support staff through the referral process and provide additional education and information surrounding the donation process as needed
Assist staff in identifying issues related to the donation process and, in collaboration, create a plan of action
Coordinate onsite staff for organ donors and referral activity
Ensure accurate, clear clinical documentation according to current policies and procedures; identify, document, and communicate essential clinical information to associated Gift of Hope staff, transplant center staff, and administrators
Facilitate necessary testing and services, at the direction of the AOC/Medical Director
Provide all medically relevant information to the ME/Coroner to obtain release for donation
Communicate effectively with families of potential organ and tissue donors to provide information and support
Obtain and document authorization of organ and tissue donation in accordance with Gift of Hope policy
Perform physical assessment of potential donors
Coordinate medical management of donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors with the hospital team to ensure appropriate hemodynamic status
Participate in departmental quality assurance initiatives, meetings, educational activities and required training as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Training Required
The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum of one year in Allied Health or graduate RN providing patient care in an acute care setting, or previous OPO clinical experience
Other candidates may be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of management, dependent on aligned job experience
Experience and Skills Required
The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job. This position requires a highly energetic person who:
Compassionate, conscientious and ethical
Demonstrate a high level of accountability
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work productively and independently
Comfortable in the presence of emotional distress, death, and dying
Basic computer skills with the ability to learn and use technology such as computers, mobile devices, and related software for communication and documentation
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Ability to see, hear, speak and communicate effectively
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Ability to move donor from cart to bed with assistance
Ability to stand, bend, stoop and kneel to perform job functions
Ability to lift 50 lbs. of equipment from ground level to table-top level, and to push/pull 75 lbs. on a roller cart

Hospital clinical environment, including all patient care areas
Ability to respond to dispatches in a timely manner and arrive to work sites as assigned
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours; 12-hour shifts including day or night shifts, weekends and holidays as assigned; shifts extending beyond 12 hours when responsibilities warrant
Access to reliable transportation to travel to hospitals and other meeting locations within Gift of Hope’s service area
Occasional travel outside the service area by auto or plane to attend conferences or meetings
Carry a personal cell phone to be accessible outside regular business hours
