Northwest Mississippi Community College seeks a full-time, 10-month instructor for the Aviation Maintenance Technology program at the Olive Branch Center. The selected instructor will provide modern instruction, foster a professional learning environment, and support the college’s reputation for delivering quality instruction and preparing highly trained graduates for employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in:
Aviation maintenance
· Prior work experience must include:
Maintenance of aircraft
Inspection of aircraft
Alterations to powerplants and airframes
Repairs to powerplants and airframes
Heavy and/or light category aircraft
· Associate of Applied Science degree preferred in:
Aviation Maintenance Technology
Or a directly related field
· Must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a mechanic with:
Airframe rating
Powerplant rating (A&P certification)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous teaching and/or training experience in aviation maintenance preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure all requirements of college and industry partners are met
Maintain compliance with all FAA requirements
Maintain professionalism with students, coworkers, and community members
Provide excellent classroom and laboratory instruction in aviation maintenance using modern teaching methods and career-focused learning experiences
Prepare lesson plans, job sheets, and laboratory demonstrations
Recommend curriculum updates to maintain program relevance
Monitor student progress, including internship participants
Collaborate with instructors and support staff
Continuously improve teaching methods and aviation maintenance skills
Maintain compliance with all professional licensing requirements, including FAA standards
Teach course material according to syllabus, catalog, and employer expectations
Prepare and grade examinations and assignments in a timely manner
Implement outcomes assessment and maintain student satisfaction standards
Encourage student engagement and retention
Begin and end classes on schedule with full instructional periods
Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and reporting records
Submit reports required by NWCC, the Mississippi Community College Board, FAA, and other partners
Attend faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and college events
Participate in campus and community extracurricular activities
Supervise laboratory experiences
Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
Maintain inventory of assigned equipment and tools
Maintain an active advisory committee with at least two meetings annually
Visit industry partners to maintain employer relationships and monitor internships
Advice and counsel students
Assist students with employment placement
Serve on faculty committees
Participate in required training and professional development activities
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate VP for Workforce & Career Tech Education in support of the College mission
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the instructor is regularly required to do the following:
Stand for long periods
Talk, hear, view, and assist students
Communicate with others in person, telephone, zoom, & live chat
Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
Occasionally lift and/or move items of at least 15-20 pounds
