Description
Overview
The Rehabilitation Aide will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a licensed clinician within the policies and procedures of the Institute and the departmental program, and in accordance with Laws and Regulations of the State of Maryland. The incumbent will assist clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including those serving the administrative, maintenance and operational needs of the program.
Responsibilities
Prepare, maintain, and clean patient treatment areas and equipment before and after treatment sessions. Adhere to Institute policies regarding patient & staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy and patient-specific and standard precautions.
Assist in the practice of therapeutic exercise, including assisting with supervising patients in standers and functional activities programs, under direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), or Physical Therapy Assistant per Maryland state law.
Demonstrate appropriate application and removal of electrodes, moist heat, and orthotic devices, as well as technical proficiency of adaptive equipment and rehabilitation modalities. Inform clinicians of any adverse effects.
Greet, transport, and assist patients with hygiene, toileting, feeding, and/or dressing needs.
Remind and clarify appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians’ treatment plans and care center scheduling.
Provide general program overview and conduct tours of the clinic for new patients and families.
Maintain program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling and storing supplies. Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling and safe storage of equipment. Identify and correct/report quality control problems, such as removal and coordinating repair of broken equipment or environmental hazards.
Actively participate in meetings and committees, including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attend staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions.
Assist with other aspects of the program on an as needed basis. This may include, but not be limited to, supervision of patients in the classroom with guidance from the special educator, arrangement of transportation for patients and their families, and/or assisting with research videotaping.
Qualifications
Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification according to the timeline determined by the department. Limited opportunities for certification may be provided by the department if not already certified.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree preferred.
Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience working or volunteering in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred.
Minimum pay range USD $15.00/Hr.
Maximum pay range USD $23.00/Hr.
