Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, FirstEnergy includes one of the nation's largest investor-owned electric systems, more than 24,000 miles of transmission lines that connect the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, and a regulated generating fleet with a total capacity of more than 3,500 megawatts.</p>\n<p><strong>About the Opportunity</strong></p>\n<p>This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>This is a pool requisition with two approved positions.</p>\n<p><strong>This is a full-time, on-site position located in either Erie or Greensburg, PA or Akron, OH.</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Summary</strong></p>\n<p>The Sr Safety Rep will provide the state operations with subject matter expertise for safety, health and human performance.&nbsp; The Senior Safety Representative will serve as a resource to management, leadership, supervision, and union / hourly employees in the direction, planning, development and coordination of the company’s safety programs. In addition, they will engage employees, visitors and contractors at all levels to promote a proactive safety culture where hazard exposure is identified and controlled or eliminated.</p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Providing technical / analytical guidance regarding OSHA regulations, as well as applicable consensus standards (i.e., NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, etc.)</li>\n <li>Perform as a Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) with the ability to research and present regulatory and technical information. Monitor and communicate regulatory requirements, as they pertain to the business.</li>\n <li>Provide sound recommendations, innovative solutions, and competent technical guidance resulting in process improvement and/or exposure reduction.</li>\n <li>Collaborate with State Leadership, Contractor Companies (as needed), FE Contractor Safety, and other FirstEnergy Business Units (as needed) to develop&nbsp;safety and health programs designed to resolve business issues and promote continuous improvement.</li>\n <li>Lead/support the state safety and health program assessments. &nbsp;</li>\n <li>Assist Business Unit Leadership in promoting/enhancing knowledge of and conformity with Safety and Health programs, requirements, and expectations.</li>\n <li>Provide consultation during the analysis of events and assist in the development of action plans to prevent recurrence, as needed. Lead or engage with root cause analysis as needed.</li>\n <li>Analyze Safety data, including observations and performance. Provide reports as needed.</li>\n <li>Assist in developing annual Industrial Hygiene sampling plan to include health hazard assessments, audiogram, respiratory protection program, employee coaching and counseling</li>\n <li>Maintain required records for compliance and maintain confidentiality where required.</li>\n <li>Actively participate in local safety and fleet safety committees / peer teams. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Develop and deliver training and presentations as needed.</li>\n <li>Educating and directing others on safety practices, improving safety program and process effectiveness, and making significant contributions to the achievement of safety goals and objectives</li>\n <li>Supporting restoration and investigation activities during and outside of normal working hours</li>\n <li>Willing to travel as required</li>\n <li>Serving as the lead in diverse and complex projects, processes and programs</li>\n <li>Independently anticipating and meeting internal/external customer needs</li>\n <li>Actively developing and implementing safety programs and policies</li>\n <li>Integrating strategic concepts into safety activities</li>\n <li>Developing high-level solutions for complex assignment</li>\n <li>Participate and lead safety and health program teams</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s degree&nbsp;in&nbsp;Safety, Health, or&nbsp;related discipline, with a minimum of 7-10&nbsp;years of relevant work experience is required. Master’s degree preferred.\n  <ul>\n   <li>Certified Safety Professional (preferred)</li>\n   <li>In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree (preferred), a minimum of 13 years of relevant work experience in required.\n    <ul>\n     <li>Supervisor experience (preferred)</li>\n    </ul></li>\n  </ul></li>\n <li>In depth knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene regulations (OSHA General Industry and Construction) and safe work practices.</li>\n <li>In depth knowledge of OSHA’s Electrical Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution regulations (Subpart R and V) (preferred)</li>\n <li>In depth knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene practices and regulations including OSHA and DOT regulations. Basic understanding of industry standards related to Health &amp; Safety including: American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).</li>\n <li>Knowledge of Human Performance Tools and Principles.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis</li>\n <li>Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including leading teams.</li>\n <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</li>\n <li>Experience with rules and regulations of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Labor and the Workers Compensation laws of PA.</li>\n <li>Experience preparing and delivering presentations and demonstrations to diverse audiences.</li>\n <li>Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities</li>\n <li>OSHA 500 Authorized Instructor for Construction (preferred)</li>\n <li>Must be willing to travel on an occasional basis to other company locations within the FirstEnergy service territory.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits, Compensation &amp; Workforce Diversity</strong><br><br>\n At FirstEnergy, employees are key to our success.
