Description

Lorain County Public Health WIC is seeking an energetic and motivated Nutrition Supervisor to join our team! This dynamic leadership role combines clinical expertise, staff supervision, community engagement, and program development to support the health and well-being of women, infants, and children throughout Lorain County. The position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team, strengthen community partnerships, and make a meaningful impact on maternal and child health outcomes. FUNCTION Under the supervision of the WIC Director, the Nutrition Supervisor leads nutrition education services, clinic operations, staff supervision, community outreach, and policy adherence while supporting families through the WIC program. This role requires a proactive leader who is passionate about public health, community engagement, and fostering a positive and accountable work environment. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Hire, supervise, train, observe, conduct frequent chart review, and evaluate WIC Health Professional team members. Provide oversight and implementation of WIC nutrition education policy and procedures. Conduct nutrition counseling to WIC participants individually and/or in group sessions regarding normal nutritional needs including breastfeeding; establishes individual nutrition goals; complete necessary documentation in the medical record. Manage a budget and make supply purchases for nutrition education and breastfeeding teams. Assist with certification/recertification of WIC participants; prescribes appropriate food packages and makes healthcare referrals; guides formula decisions, and when necessary, assists in obtaining medical data (heights, weights, and hematocrits). Oversight of nutrition education plan including modules, newsletters, outreach information, etc. Proactively identify, develop, and maintain partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to strengthen outreach, collaboration, and access to WIC services. Assist with outreach efforts including, but not limited to, website, social media, fax, Zoom, and text communication. Serve as a representative of LCPH and the WIC program through community events, public speaking engagements, presentations, coalition meetings, and committees that support maternal and child health initiatives. Site management including staff/participant issues and schedules, site operations, policy adherence, and communication with ODH. Compile statistics and data needed for reports; track inventory; build the Nutrition Education Plan; and ensure timely completion of assigned projects, reports, and program requirements with minimal follow-up or direction. MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS Knowledge of :  Current research-based nutrition and breastfeeding recommendations; WIC/agency policies and procedures; counseling practices and procedures; agency strategic priorities; maternal child health resources; Ability to :  Supervise, support, and work through staff situations; express nutrition principles in written or oral form to individuals and groups; proactively form community partnerships; communicate and promote WIC through various forms of media; effectively represent the agency through public speaking and professional community engagement; manage a budget; independently prioritize tasks and manage competing responsibilities; consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision; handle challenging participants; provide excellent customer service; maintain a positive work environment; ensure adherence to agency policies and procedures; and be a team player. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university; Registered Dietitian license from the Ohio Board of Dietetics; Minimum of 5 years of experience working with the WIC program. WORK ENVIRONMENT:   Personal vehicle required. Requires some, mostly local, travel between clinic sites.  Physically able to stock supplies, move charts/people around the WIC clinic, and do light cleaning of office space. COMPENSATION:  $39.15 – $49.96. Starting pay will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and alignment with our established pay structure. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Public Employee’s Retirement System of Ohio. Paid vacation, personal leave, holidays, and sick leave. Family-friendly environment.
