Position Overview: The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, Game Management Assistant, and Resident Director is a combined 12-month position that supports Bethany College through year-round athletics responsibilities and a 10-month live-in residence life appointment. The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Game Management Assistant responsibilities are 12-month assignments and include supporting the administration of the women’s basketball program, assisting with recruitment, coaching, student-athlete development, team operations, game management, and home athletics event support. The Resident Director portion of this role is a 10-month, live-in appointment during the academic year. In this capacity, the employee provides leadership within the residential community, supervises Resident Assistants, supports approximately 70 residents, participates in on-call duty rotation, responds to emergencies, coordinates residence hall programming and operations, and supports the mission and goals of Student Affairs. This position requires strong communication, professionalism, sound judgment, confidentiality, flexibility, and the ability to support student success in both athletics and residential life. The employee is expected to uphold Bethany College policies and procedures, NAIA and KCAC expectations, and the College’s mission, vision, and values. Essential Functions: Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Responsibilities: 12-month position Assist in the administration of all phases of an NAIA sports program, including recruiting qualified student-athletes. Adhere to the College recruitment scholarship model. Lead, support, and prioritize student retention and persistence to graduation. Create and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes, both in and out of sport. (Negative, demeaning, and derogatory coaching and communication tactics will not be tolerated.) Assist in monitoring and supporting the academic success of student-athletes. Lead community engagement and service-learning opportunities within the sport program. Assist in planning and conducting pre- and post-season conditioning and training programs. Assist in planning and leading pre- and post-season individual meetings with student-athletes to discuss progress, development, and goals. Help prepare and manage records for the team. Assist in arranging team travel and meals, and prepare timely and accurate documents (e.g., travel expense statements, itineraries). Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all times. Assist in coordinating visits by recruits and their families. Assist in the general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program. Assist in formulating the team’s competitive schedule. Assist in organizing and training student-athletes for successful and safe competition. Keep abreast of current trends and methods by participating in clinics, workshops, etc., that contribute to professional development and self-improvement. Adhere to College, KCAC, and NAIA policies and procedures. Foster cooperative working relationships with the immediate supervisor, staff, and team members associated with the program. Cooperate with other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions. Adhere to all College spending policies and procedures, as well as the operational sport budget. Actively lead fundraising efforts for the sport program and the Department of Athletics. Take the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the staff. Support the Department of Athletics' mission, vision, and values. Participate in staff and team meetings, providing input and suggestions. Assist in providing continual evaluation of processes and procedures, suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency, and service to internal and external customers. Work in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilities. Residential Education and Services Live-in, 10-month position Rotate on-call duty with other Resident Directors, including weekends and holidays Respond to emergency situations as needed Attend weekly Resident Director meetings Lead a staff of Resident Assistants in developing community and responding to the needs of approximately 70 residents Conduct weekly staff meetings with the RA staff Schedule and supervise RA duty rotation Conduct monthly health and safety inspections and fire alarm pulls with staff; follow up and report when necessary Report violations of the Code of Conduct Coordinate programming within the residence hall Coordinate room changes as directed by the Residence Life Coordinator General Student Development Provide leadership through conduct, attitude, and professionalism Set a standard and tone that reflects positively on the Division of Student Affairs and the College, providing students with a positive role model Understand College policies and procedures and exercise judgment accordingly Recommend policy changes and develop procedures to improve hall operations Help ensure student safety and appropriate handling of confidential College information Function as an active and cooperative member of the Office of Student Affairs Support the mission and goals of the department Maintain active involvement in all student development activities and assist when necessary Game Management Assistant Responsibilities: 12-month position Serve as game manager for home contests as assigned. Help ensure that all athletic contests held at Bethany College are administered effectively and in alignment with the College’s core values. Monitor fans and crowds; help ensure the game and stands environment is a positive one for student-athletes, officials, and spectators. Provide support for game day staff, officials, and visiting teams. Prepare locker rooms for visiting teams and officials, and escort officials to and from locker rooms. Assist with concessions purchasing, inventory, and the sign-up process as needed. Assist in the counting and deposit process of the concession’s money box and gate money box as needed. Assist with the scheduling and training of student workers as needed. Qualifications: Required: Clear understanding of the NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics in a private, church-related liberal arts setting. Excellent organizational skills. Regular attendance required. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; Ability to exercise sound judgment in student-facing situations Ability to respond effectively in emergencies Ability to supervise, mentor, and lead student staff Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and families Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold College policies and procedures Excellent grammar, spelling, and writing abilities Microsoft Office, computer knowledge, and knowledge of office equipment Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be very results-oriented Highly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environment Preferred: Two years of related experience Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, or some knowledge of the Spanish language is a plus Working Conditions: Full-time, live-in position in a residential setting for the Residential Director 10-month appointment for the Residential Director Evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities required The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
