    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The <strong>Assistant Teacher II</strong> will support the teachers who serve a varied population of students. The incumbent assists with the implementation of the program as outlined in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) of each student and assists with adapting instruction that meets the individual academic, medical, developmental, and technological needs of the students. This position will fulfill all teacher duties and responsibilities in the periodic absence of the teacher, and may be expected to assume all teacher duties during extended absences of a teacher.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>At the <strong>Lifeskills and Education for Students with Autism and Pervasive Behavioral Challenges ( LEAP ) Program</strong> , our mission is to ensure each of our students gains the independence and skills necessary to fully participate in school, community, workplace, and home life.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Our specialized autism program is a nonpublic special education day program approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>We offer a range of educational and therapeutic services for students with complex academic, communication, social, and behavioral needs. Our program emphasizes the development of lifelong skills through an active approach to learning, including participation in community and work-based learning opportunities that allow them to apply skills outside of the classroom.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<li>Assist with the implementation of instruction in accordance with students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) in cooperation with a supervising teacher, using effective strategies for academic and behavioral success.</li>\n<li>Prepare for and participate in parent conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.</li>\n<li>Assume responsibilities during after school emergencies including but not limited to student supervision, phone communication, and written documentation.</li>\n<li>Provide support and leadership for curricular and extra-curricular activities, special events, and projects that support student-life and promote a positive school experience.</li>\n<li>Complete instructional-related duties as assigned by supervising teachers and administrators.</li>\n<li>Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.</li>\n<li>Implement behavioral protocols and assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.</li>\n<li>Utilize instructional and non-instructional times in a professional manner in keeping with administrative guidelines.</li>\n<li>Participate in and contribute to in-service training and staff meetings in a professional and collegial manner.</li>\n<li>Assist with the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery in accordance with supervising teacher’s directions.</li>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>\n<p>Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training will be provided by the department, according to the individual program requirements. Employee must achieve and maintain certification (at the “Practitioner” level or higher) according to the timeline established within the departmental policy.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>EDUCATION:</strong></p>\n<p>Bachelor’s degree is required.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>EXPERIENCE:</strong></p>\n<p>Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities is highly preferred.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p>\n<li>Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.</li>\n<li>Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.</li>\n<li>Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.</li>\n<li>Must be able to occasionally lift and carry students requiring assistive and/or adaptive equipment.</li>\n<li>Must be able to lift, carry, and/or restrain students as needed to implement approved behavioral management techniques.</li>\n<h2>Minimum pay range</h2>USD $17.77/Hr.\n<h2>Maximum pay range</h2>USD $28.99/Hr.",
