Description
Occupational Therapist (PRN)
Provides evaluations and treatment of patients by physical measures, therapeutic exercise and rehabilitative procedures with or without assistive devices, and task & activity modification for the purpose of preventing, correcting, or alleviating any disability that limits a patient’s ability to perform the activities of daily living as allowed by referral from a currently licensed appropriate medical practitioner. Maintains a high level of professional expertise and assures responsibility for professional growth and development.
Administers comprehensive evaluations/reevaluations of patients with physical, developmental, and cognitive impairments; interprets results and identifies pertinent problems which may be addressed by occupational therapy.
Develops and implements appropriate treatment plans to meet realistic, measurable short term and long term functional goals optimizing recovery for patients of various age categories as determined by department supervisor.
Develops, monitors, and completes documentation of patient performance and progress through written evaluations, reevaluations, progress and discharge notes, letters to referring practitioners, and home programs.
Provides occupational therapy treatment personally or via supervising support personnel in accordance with the laws and rules governing the practice of occupational therapy for the State of Ohio and professional ethical guidelines.
Communicates with patients, family/caregivers, referring practitioners, and other hospital personnel to give/receive input to maximize efficient quality patient care.
Effectively incorporates patient/caregiver education techniques to allow maximal participation in patient care considering financial, familial, and environmental factors affecting participation.
Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings recommending course of action consistent with patient’s evaluation/condition.
Coordinates and participates in patient scheduling and billing activities.
Provides education to students, nursing staff, and other health care professionals as necessary; assists in orienting and mentoring staff.
Participates in performance improvement and quality control activities; assists in maintaining compliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.
Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences, and seminars to satisfy CEU requirements necessary for continued Ohio licensure.
Performs duties with diligent use of resources to deliver optimal quality care.
Supports and upholds established hospital and department policies, procedures, goals, safety, environment and infection control objectives.
