Career Opportunity Occupational Therapist- Family Well Being (Full-time, 1-Year Term – Maternity Leave Coverage) Closing: Open until filled Anticipated Start Date: Immediate Salary Range: $ 80,000 annually (Based on Qualifications and Experience) General Description: The Sipekne’katik Family Well Being department is seeking full time, permanent Occupational Therapist. As part of a family- centered circle of care, the Occupational Therapist will with to their full scope of practice, providing culturally responsive supports to families referred to the Family Well Being program. Responsibilities: Clinical Assessments & Treatment: Perform and interpret cognitive, fine/ gross motor, developmental, and sensory assessments for clients aged 0-18 years. Develop evidence-based treatment plans to maintain, enhance, or restore function. Write letters of support for pediatric assistive devices and manage funding applications Family & Child Support: Provide occupational therapy supports in-home and in pre-kindergarten settings. Educate, coach, and empower families with self-management strategies. Collaborate with caregivers, teachers, and families to implement individualized intervention plans. Collaboration & Advocacy: Consult and coordinate care with allied health professionals, physicians, and other service providers. Advocate for clients and assist in submitting funding requests through the Nova Scotia Disability Support Program, Jordan’s Principle, NHIB, and other third-party organizations. Documentation & Reporting Protect and maintain Confidential client records. Complete charts, reports, and documentation in a timely manner. Submit reports after each community visit (e.g., number of clients seen, clinical meetings, leadership updates). Cultural Responsiveness: Act with respect, humility, and knowledge of Mi’kmaq culture, values, and challenges Qualifications and Experience/Skills: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Occupational Therapy Minimum 3 years of work experience as a registered OT Current membership in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia. Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and therapeutic skills. Excellent verbal and written communication: proficiency with Microsoft 365. Strong problem-solving, decision making, and time management abilities Experience working in a First Nations Community is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license; willingness to travel. A Criminal Records check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry check is required.
