Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Psychiatric Worker with a degree in Behavioural Science to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital. Apply today to join our team! As a Psychiatric Worker with VCH you will: Work under the direction of the Charge Nurse, to provide specific aspects of psychiatric assessment and therapeutic care to clients with mental health needs, and establish client/family needs above all other concerns. Contribute to the development, implementation and revision of client care plans; participate in ward rounds/meetings as required; conduct observation rounds to ensure the safety of clients and staff; record and communicate client behaviours; identify the need for intervention; administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to established protocols. Participate in in-service education; respond to general inquiries; transport and accompany clients who are considered unsafe to be alone; assist with admissions; provide personal care to clients when necessary under the direction of nursing staff. About the Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU) at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) The Psychiatric Assessment Unit at Vancouver General Hospital is a 14-bed short stay unit focused on clients who require short term, intensive treatment to return to their community, with length of stay being approximately three days. At PAU, Nurses support patients with their physical and mental health needs as well as day-to-day activities. The PAU team endeavors to provide a safe place that promotes acute psychiatric stabilization for patients in a comforting, caring and holistic environment. Qualifications Education & Experience Graduation from a recognized degree program in Behavioural Science plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Closing Statement The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
