Discover endless opportunities to grow and make your mark at Hines.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>As Managing Director/Associate General Counsel for the Construction Legal team, this role is designed to transition into the most senior legal position overseeing construction and design matters following the planned retirement of the current Associate General Counsel responsible for these areas.  During a period of overlap, the individual in this role will work closely with the existing leader to help finalize a standard set of risk management principles for construction and design engagements and a template set of agreements for use across Hines’ different development platforms and projects in all geographies and jurisdictions. Ultimately, this role will involve management and supervision of the Hines’ in-house construction legal team and the retention and supervision of outside counsel for construction and design matters (both transactional and litigation), the implementation of Hines’ risk management principles for Hines’ development, design and construction projects (working with the Conceptual Construction Group, the Hines design and construction management, property management and operations teams, local development and business leads and the Hines’ insurance group) and acting as lead negotiator on major Hines’ development projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Develop strong partnerships with Hines senior leadership and regional teams.</li>\n <li>Develop, train and manage in-house construction legal team.</li>\n <li>Develop and implement risk management standards for Hines’ development, design and construction projects.</li>\n <li>Negotiate and draft design, construction and related contracts for Hines’ most significant projects.</li>\n <li>Provide support to central departments and international and regional offices with respect to development, design, construction and insurance matters.</li>\n <li>External counsel management.</li>\n <li>Manage and resolve disputes including litigation, mediation and arbitration.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>Minimum Requirements include: </p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n <li>J.D. degree from an accredited law school.</li>\n <li><p>Ten or more years of experience specifically in construction transactions (construction litigation experience is also desired but not required).</p></li>\n <li><p>Experience in construction transactions in different states and countries, and across different project types is a plus (such as residential for rent and for sale, office, industrial, data centers, life science).</p></li>\n <li><p>Strong negotiation and contract skills.</p></li>\n <li><p>Licensed to practice law in the United States.</p></li>\n <li><p>Experience selecting and managing outside counsel.</p></li>\n <li><p>Highly confident, articulate, self-motivated, self-sufficient, and enthusiastic individual who is a team player.</p></li>\n <li><p>Entrepreneurial mindset and focus on outcomes over output.</p></li>\n <li><p>Ability to travel periodically.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Closing</h2>\n<p>At Hines, we strive for excellence as a leading global real estate investment manager, driven by our by our belief that real estate is fundamentally about people.
