We work at the grassroots to give people a sense of their own power. We collaborate with organizations and coalitions in communities throughout New York to address critical issues at the local, state and federal levels.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">About the position</span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Citizen Action is looking to add a temporary canvasser to our Central New York team. </span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">The canvass position focuses on going door-to-door in low income communities and communities of color in order to activate community members  and recruit them for our issue campaigns and organization  In particular, this position focuses on educating and recruiting tenants and community members to protect and fight for housing protections and rights in Utica. This position will report to the Central New York Lead Organizer.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">What you’ll do and the impact you'll make</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Go door to door multiple times a week for 2 hour shifts.  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Invite people interested in the organization to join, record responses of community members and track data.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Identify community members for follow up by organizers based on their interest in our campaign</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Consistently meet quotas for door to door work and recruitment</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Availability weekends, and evenings </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Any other duties as required by your supervisor</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">Skills/Qualifications</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Great communication and people skills </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Respect for diverse communities and varied worldviews and a commitment to promoting racial and gender justice</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Ability to use a script as a guide and have authentic conversations </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Ability to go door-to-door and speak with community members on the phone (shifts will be 2-hours long) </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Patience and persistence</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Access to a tablet, laptop and phone with internet access</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Comfort using basic online software with training</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Ability to work independently with minimal supervision</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Reliable transportation to travel to canvass turfs (valid driver’s license required if using personal vehicle) </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Ability and willingness to fully adopt use of VAN, Scale to Win Dialer and Text, EveryAction, New/Mode, Google Drive, Slack, Asana, Action Network, and any other tools used by the organizations.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">Location</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">This position will be based in Utica, NY, reporting to that chapters’ office location.</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">Pay rate:</span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\"> $21.50/hour</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">Working Hours:</span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\"> 10 hours/week for 8 weeks</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline\">Equal Opportunity Employer</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px\">Citizen Action of NY and The Public Policy and Education Fund are equal opportunity employers.
