Description
Position Summary:
The Student Success Advisor will create a continuum of support and engagement for Health Institute at Hardy students with a focus on ensuring students in grades 9-10 are passing all of their core content area courses and staying on track towards meeting key high school graduation requirements. The Student Success Advisor will also lead the student pathway selection process and provide individualized advising to grade 10 students and families to help them make informed decisions on pursuing a clinical, operations or administration health care pathway that will lead to differentiated coursework and work-based learning opportunities in grades 11-12.
This role requires a strong understanding of student development and how to motivate and influence students and families to improve academic performance. The Advisor will collaborate with teachers and staff to address individual student needs, provide targeted academic interventions to students, and lead family-academic partnership strategies to engage deeply with families to support their success. This is a 12-month position and is grant-funded for the next three years.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Assistant Principal of Postsecondary and Hardy 9th and 10th grade staff to identify and manage a caseload of students requiring individualized academic advising and family engagement. Adjust caseloads after each report period based on student performance data and identified needs. Lead 1-on-1 and small group academic interventions during lunch and after school enrichment, providing structured opportunities for students to complete assignments, prepare for assessments, improve academic performance, and reduce course failures.
Collaborates regularly with 9th grade and 10th grade teachers, Case Managers, and Culture team members to understand students academic performance and attendance trends, identify barriers to success, and develop targeted intervention and skill-building strategies.
Leads family-academic partnership with 9th and 10th grade students on caseload via phone calls, text messages and in-person conferences. Provide families with clear information about student progress, school-based supports, and strategies to reinforce academic growth at home.
Tracks student attendance and engagement during lunch and after school academic interventions , as well as family engagement, to maintain timely and accurate data on student success advising
Pull and analyze weekly attendance, grade, and retention data to monitor student growth, identify trends, and develop data-informed action plans to improve outcomes. Supports 9th and 10th grade Introduction to Health Care Careers teachers in coordinating work-based learning experiences and durable skill development activities that help students understand the connection between academic performance, postsecondary readiness, and future opportunities with healthcare employers, including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Provides 1-on-1 advising to 10th grade students and families to explore interests, aptitude, and fit for students to select health care clinical, operations or administration pathways that will drive programming for their 11th-12th grade student experience
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to motivate and influence students and families toward improved academic outcomes
Understanding and experience with planning and leading effective, results-driven academic interventions
Demonstrated understanding of effective instructional and behavioral strategies for supporting students in under-resourced or historically marginalized communities
Strong people and project management skills, with the proven ability to build and maintain cooperative working relationships
Proficiency in implementing data-driven management routines
Deep commitment to providing a high-quality educational experience for students and families
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Comfort using computer software programs and technology to support student learning
Proven track record of achieving measurable results
Education and Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of related experience; with demonstrated success developing and implementing programming in education, government, or non-profit settings
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience working with youth in educational settings, particularly in college access and/or career preparation programs, preferred
Familiarity with college counseling and career exposure programming, including college planning, career development, internships, and the challenges faced by first-generation and/or low-income students, preferred
Other Requirements:
Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the role as outlined above, and to work in the environmental conditions required, such as traveling to network campuses, monitoring and interacting with students, in-person facilitation of trainings, etc;
This role may require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job responsibilities
Salary and Bonus Information:
This role is eligible for a $3,000 bonus as well as up to $5,000 for relocation expenses!
New-to-Mastery Student Success Advisors can expect a starting annual salary of between $76,750-$88,500 based on years’ of experience and level of education. Salaries range from $76,750-$115,500, with growth opportunities as your career progresses.
