The position develops and maintains risk reduction strategies, policies, and educational programs; analyzes safety and claims trends; and provides expert consultation regarding potential liability and patient safety concerns.</p>\n<p>The Clinical Risk Manager also participates in organizational committees, supports regulatory reporting and product/device safety monitoring, and provides 24/7 on-call support for urgent safety issues.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p>\n<h2>Risk Identification & Mitigation</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Lead and support the system-wide clinical risk management program by assessing institutional risks, adverse events, and near misses.</p></li>\n <li><p>Investigate and analyze actual and potential risks and recommend mitigation and loss prevention strategies.</p></li>\n <li><p>Manage and evaluate safety and claims trend data to reduce economic impact and improve patient outcomes.</p></li>\n <li><p>Develop risk reduction initiatives aligned with patient safety and quality improvement efforts.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Event Response & Disclosure</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Coordinate and guide care teams through the disclosure and apology process following serious adverse events.</p></li>\n <li><p>Ensure timely internal investigations, appropriate notifications to claims and leadership, and follow-up actions consistent with just culture principles.</p></li>\n <li><p>Serve as a primary advisor to providers and operational leaders on incident response, potential claims, and legal exposure.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Policy, Compliance & Regulatory Oversight</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Develop, review, and revise risk management and patient safety policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements.</p></li>\n <li><p>Monitor regulatory updates and communicate applicable changes to leadership and medical staff.</p></li>\n <li><p>Support reporting obligations to state and federal regulatory agencies as required.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Education, Consultation & Culture Development</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Design and deliver system-wide education on clinical risk management, disclosure practices, and patient safety topics.</p></li>\n <li><p>Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement consistent with Emory Healthcare’s Care Transformation Model and just culture framework.</p></li>\n <li><p>Serve as a consultant to departments, clinical providers, and legal/claims teams on patient safety and risk mitigation strategies.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Collaboration & Operational Support</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Partner with Quality, Patient Safety, Legal, Compliance, Public Safety, and operational leaders to align risk management initiatives with system priorities.</p></li>\n <li><p>Participate in system-wide committees and initiatives that strengthen patient safety and risk prevention.</p></li>\n <li><p>Provide 24/7 on-call coverage and support for <li><p><strong>Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)</strong></p></li>\n <li><p><strong>Master of Business Administration (MBA)</strong></p></li>\n <li><p><strong>Master of Public Health Administration (MPHA)</strong></p></li>\n <li><p><strong>Master of Social Work (MSW)</strong></p></li>\n <li><p><strong>Juris Doctor (JD)</strong></p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Experience</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Minimum <strong>3 years of healthcare experience</strong> in clinical, operational, or risk-related roles.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Licensure</h2>\n<p><strong>For Registered Nurses:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Graduate of an accredited nursing program.</p></li>\n <li><p>Valid, active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license approved by the <strong>Georgia Board of Nursing</strong>.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h1>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</h1>\n<p><strong>Clinical Risk Management Expertise</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Knowledge of patient safety principles, adverse event investigation, disclosure and apology practices, and just culture frameworks.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Regulatory & Medical-Legal Knowledge</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Understanding of federal and state healthcare regulations, accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission), medical device reporting, and healthcare liability concepts.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Analytical & Critical Thinking</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Ability to evaluate adverse events, analyze safety and claims data, identify patterns, and recommend effective mitigation strategies.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Communication & Facilitation</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Ability to coach providers through complex or sensitive conversations, facilitate multidisciplinary reviews, and produce clear documentation and reports.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Collaboration & Relationship Building</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Experience working effectively with physicians, clinical leaders, operational teams, quality and patient safety teams, legal counsel, and regulatory agencies.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Organizational & Operational Management</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Ability to manage multiple concurrent investigations, regulatory deadlines, high-risk events, and system-wide initiatives.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h1>Preferred Qualifications</h1>\n<h2>Experience</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Prior experience in healthcare risk management or professional liability management.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Certification</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p><strong>Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM)</strong> certification or eligibility to obtain certification.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h1>Preferred Skills and Expertise</h1>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Experience with healthcare incident reporting and claims management platforms (e.g., RLDatix, RiskMaster, Press Ganey HRP).</p></li>\n <li><p>Experience conducting complex adverse event investigations, root cause analyses (RCA), or patient safety reviews.</p></li>\n <li><p>Prior leadership or committee participation in patient safety, quality improvement, or risk management programs.</p></li>\n <li><p>Experience collaborating with legal counsel and applying medical-legal principles within clinical environments.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
