GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The staff audiologist/clinic director is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Pacific EarClinic, the School of Audiology’s on-site audiology clinic. The staff audiologist/clinic director reports to the Chief Clinic Operations Officer (CCOO) and works closely with the Director of the School of Audiology (SOA) and the school’s faculty and staff to ensure that the Pacific EarClinic is successful. This is a year-round, in person appointment with 70%/30% split of clinical and administrative work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care Functions/Responsibilities :
Provides direct patient care and student supervision for approximately 70% of workload.
Assumes responsibility for a given patient’s care as necessary when the audiologist-of-record cannot be reached.
Oversees the patient-care process throughout the Pacific EarClinic, with attention to quality of service and patient satisfaction. Follows up on concerns and comments received via patient satisfaction surveys.
Reviews records and charts, as needed, and directs distribution of documents for referrals and records requests in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Responds to patient concerns when issues are not readily resolvable by assigned clinical faculty and staff.
Attends to other patient care functions and responsibilities as assigned or necessary for the roles and responsibilities of the position.
Clinic Management Functions/Responsibilities :
Oversees all operations pertinent to the Pacific EarClinic(s), including patient scheduling, equipment, maintenance, ordering supplies, facilities management, clinic staff management, marketing, budgeting, and policies and procedures development.
Responsible for monitoring and developing staff by seeking out various training opportunities according to the university/school/clinic’s needs and goals that also align with the staff’s interests and growth ideas in mind.
Responsible for the financial success of the Pacific EarClinic by working closely with the CCOO and Director of the School of Audiology to develop and manage the Pacific EarClinic’s budget.
Works with the Director of the School of Audiology to assure accuracy of clinic schedules for staff audiologists and clinic supervisors.
Oversees calibration, ordering and maintenance of all necessary clinical equipment, supplies, and materials. Coordinates requests from faculty and administrative and professional staff for clinic equipment, supplies, and materials.
Sets and facilitates routine clinic operations meetings for staff audiologists, and clinic staff
Assists with recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of clinic administrative and professional staff.
Develops and implements a continuous quality improvement program for the Pacific EarClinic and implement quality assurance reviews.
Conducts annual reviews of clinic administrative staff and contributes to annual reviews of clinic professional staff.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of all pertinent licensure and hearing aid dispensing requirements pertinent to the practice of audiology, as mandated by the state of Oregon, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and any other relevant organizations or entities.
Tracks HIPAA, insurance requirements, and other pertinent regulations to ensure compliance.
Serves as audiology expert for electronic medical records.
Manages, maintains, and evaluates contracts and agreements pertinent to the management and operation of the Pacific EarClinic(s) in consultation with the CCOO and Director of the SOA.
Communicates clinic policies and procedures to all pertinent individuals.
Attends to other clinic management functions and responsibilities as assigned or necessary for the roles and responsibilities of the position.
Educational/Supervisory Functions/Responsibilities :
Serves as a clinical preceptor/supervisor for AuD students in the Pacific EarClinic.
Provides and oversees opportunities for prospective students to observe within the Pacific EarClinic in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Helps ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and provides input as needed for annual accreditation reports and periodic accreditation site visits.
University Service Functions/Responsibilities :
Engages with other programs, faculty, and staff across Pacific University for interprofessional opportunities in clinical service provision.
Works with the Central Healthcare Operations team and other clinic directors within the university to enhance efficiencies.
Facilitates community partnerships and relationships that further clinical service and serves as a liaison between the Pacific EarClinic and the audiology practice community.
Serves on clinic, school, college, and university committees and work groups as assigned and/or as appropriate to the roles and responsibilities of the position.
Attends to other university functions and responsibilities as assigned or necessary for the roles and responsibilities of the position.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Serves as an advisor to clinical Capstone projects as requested by Director of SOA
Serves as a proctor for various student exams, both practical and didactic (e.g., lab courses, ABCS, CPE and didactic exams as requested by Director of the SOA
Assists with teaching of clinical aspects of doctoral audiology education, both didactic and experiential, as requested by Director of the SOA.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
JOB SCOPE:
Most work is self-guided, operating from established directions, policies, and procedures.
Independent decision-making is expected, but the scope of work does require working closely with the Director of the School of Audiology to ensure that the operations of the Pacific EarClinic meet expectations within the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the school.
Excellence in performing the responsibilities of this office is essential since any mistakes or errors may result in work stoppage, loss of business, poor patient relations, harm to our students’ education, and/or damage to audiologic equipment, products, and materials, all of which can have negative financial implications for the university and may also negatively impact licensure requirements, accreditation standards, and professional ethical conduct expectations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Hold and maintain a current audiology license from the state of Oregon, or eligible for such license and must obtain prior to hire date (as required by state of Oregon).
Earned Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree, and/or research doctorate degree (e.g., PhD) in audiology, hearing/balance science or related field.
At least three (3) years, broad-scope clinical experience as an audiologist.
Preferred:
Five or more years clinical audiology experience
Three years of audiology clinical management experience or clinic development.
Professional certification in audiology from the American Board of Audiology and/or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CCC-A).
Previous supervisory experience with students.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:
Effectively utilizes and quickly adopts computer-based and other high-tech systems pertinent to an audiology clinic, including electronic health record systems.
Utilizes professional-level written, verbal and inter-personal communication skills required, taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrates leadership skills with ability to motivate staff and students to achieve goals and objectives.
Builds on basic learning and carries it from one situation to another, and operationalizes and implements ideas for the growth and development of the Pacific EarClinic.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem-solving and decision-making.
Works independently in an organized, efficient, and timely manner with attention to detail.
Takes responsibility to eliminate the source of problems.
Demonstrates confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students, faculty, staff, and patients.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
This is an in-person position, with the typical hours being Monday – Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM.
Typical office and audiology clinic environment, with routine computer- and paper-based work requirements, plus frequent handling of audiologic equipment, materials, and supplies.
Includes occasional travel to other clinical sites
Includes occasional evening and weekend work requirements to support the work of the Pacific EarClinic and the School of Audiology.
