Description
Job Summary:
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Physician and/or Advance Practice Provider (APP).
Job Duties:
Performs patient intake process - measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height, etc. and records all other information, including quality measures, into electronic patient charts. Prepares and cleans treatment rooms for examination of patients. Positions instruments and equipment; hands instruments and materials to provider as directed. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Operates equipment to administer routine in-office diagnostic testing; calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests outside the office. Performs applicable in-office testing that may include electrocardiograph (EKG), pulmonary function testing (PFT), and operates equipment to administer routine diagnostic test. Gives injections/shots. Performs venipuncture and routine laboratory testing. Schedules appointments, performs secretarial tasks, completes insurance forms and other patient care related forms, including medical records, DOT, worker’s compensation, annual wellness visits, etc. Keys data into the electronic medical record (EMR) to maintain accurate office and patient records. Always maintains patient confidentiality. Performs daily opening and closing task as assigned by practice management. Promptly returns telephone messages and clears voicemail daily; checks company email daily. Works through EMR clinical inboxes throughout the day to promptly address needs/request for our patients. Assist other members of the clinical support team when needed; flexible to work with any provider when needed according to the provider’s patient schedule. Works with assigned provider or works as a float supporting all providers and clinical support team. Demonstrates exceptional customer services putting patients first…always.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Associate Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience to be determined by practice management.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, internet software, database software, and email (outlook).
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
Medical Assistant Scope of Practice:
Physicians and APPs may delegate a reasonable scope of clinical procedures (including venipuncture and intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections) to competent and knowledgeable medical assistants working under their direct supervision. Procedures
which constitute the practice of medicine, or which state law specifically and unambiguously permits only certain licensed health care professionals to perform, however, may not be delegated to unlicensed personnel such as medical assistants.
Verbal Orders - Only medical assistants who have been granted the certified medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) credential may give verbal and/or telephone orders to registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
Written Orders - A RN or LPN may accept orders which have been entered on the patient’s record by a CMA or AAMA, provided the nurse adheres to the following stipulations:
The licensure status of the health care professional must be identified. The order must be written on the appropriate form and must include the name of the physician or APP involved and the name and title of the persons recording. The order must be signed by the appropriate physician or APP within 24 hours.
